The issue is not the location of the finals but that Kingston Technology is a US company and because of that has to follow the US department of State policies.

Just to clarify, I think the misunderstanding come from the highest level of embargo by the US (targeting 5 countries including Iran) being called "State Sponsors of Terrorism", the US Department of State gave it this name not Kingston. We really misjudged how serious the subject was and the implications it can have for any US company. Kingston put a lot of effort for clarifying the situation between the end of the EMEA qualifier and the last communication with the Iranian contestants, it was reviewed by the legal departments and advisors back and forth.
