Massman Posted December 2, 2011 Posted December 2, 2011 ... the hwbot submission form is one of the best protections against spambots? . We regularly have spambots trying to get casino and xxx-urls in hwbot, but none of them ever get the different verification requirements right! No need for this or this or even this! All you need is hwbot submission form Quote
I.M.O.G. Posted December 2, 2011 Posted December 2, 2011 Nice, that is a good solution. Spam is such a waste of time for forums. I use a Honey Pot - there are fields on the registration form hidden via CSS (most any non-text based browser supports CSS), but automated registration bots use command line tools that don't process CSS - they see and fill out the hidden fields all the time, so we give them error messages. K404 Posted December 4, 2011 Posted December 4, 2011 If the anti-spammer technique is an HWBot submission form, that explains how Christian slipped through the net Quote
Crew Turrican Posted December 4, 2011 Crew Posted December 4, 2011 If the anti-spammer technique is an HWBot submission form, that explains how Christian slipped through the net i wondered that too. Quote
Massman Posted December 4, 2011 Author Posted December 4, 2011 That's how this whole thing started. We figured our spam mechanism failed as Christian suddenly showed up. Quote

Christian Ney Posted December 4, 2011 Posted December 4, 2011 nope, but in the forum in the blog tab/section, there is only spam bots (most of them already removed) Quote
Crew Turrican Posted December 4, 2011 Crew Posted December 4, 2011 nope, but in the forum in the blog tab/section, there is only spam bots (most of them already removed) hmm, yeah Quote
I.M.O.G. Posted December 18, 2011 Posted December 18, 2011 I think there is a bigger problem now. With the speed and frequency with which they are posting, these are clearly automated attacks - probably been manually configured to navigate the registration system, then set to auto-spam. Looks like the work of xrumers. Quote
Hondacity Posted December 18, 2011 Posted December 18, 2011 they're flooding my visitor message box lol Quote
DrWeez Posted December 18, 2011 Posted December 18, 2011 "Spam-O-Matic" fixed the spam bot issues on several forums I admin, not sure if there is a version for 3.7.1 but I highly recommend it for any VB installation. Quote
Christian Ney Posted December 18, 2011 Posted December 18, 2011 Thats funny that some days after massman claimed "hwbot without bots" there are so much bots spaming everywhere on hwbot. Revenge of the Bots (now on sale) The HWBot Striked Back (coming soon) Quote
