  1. I have seen many people using chillers in the water section. It is still water. You will only automatically move to a different class when you use a Single Stage, a Cascade, Dry Ice, Ln2 or He. http://forums.midlifegamers.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=40&t=1558 Here is a nice thread by one of our team mates showing how he converted a Chiller to run below zero. You can ask him directly about the process and how it worked in the thread.
  2. Totally fair and I wish more of my teams water cooling guys would give iced water benching a try. I like the open loop method. Buy a aquarium pump submersible kind, or a sumbersible pond pump they have huge head power. Then put it in a bucket I put some filter around the inlet so that no ice blocks the inlet pipe and cover the entire thing in a few Kg of ice. Two litre water, or just enough water to cover the pump and ready to go. The outlet of the pump goes to your water block of course and the outlet is just pouring over the ice in your bucket. This is a bit like a bong benching set up. Good fun and because the pumps are so cheap you can put salt or other stuff in the water to get the temp even lower. Sort of like this. http://www.midlifegamers.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=1311&p=13431
  3. Good to see you pulling some good scores. Do not hurry or expect to hit the sweet spot with Ln2 right away. Takes time to work out how your system is going to behave, and each day is a different day. So keep doing what you are doing and it will pay dividends.

  5. Cheers mate I just had a quick look at the submission dates and yeah I see that Vivi's entry was much later than mine, 29th according to the HWBOT submissions page. Even though the contest closed on the 28th. Thanks for clearing that up for me.
  6. Hang about - can someone please explain how suddenly some folks have screenshots in stage two submissions when they seemingly did not have any before? I now understand fgi why you tipped others to win and not yourself. Would like official explanation how or why that is allowed.
  7. Thank you Massman for clearing this up. I do hope that the target is a very specific target down to the hundreds of seconds just to make it a real challenge. And fgi my friend my money is on you to win.
  8. Stage 3: Super Pi 32M The target score is to be revealed on HWBOT on Monday, December 29th Submission will be open for 24 hours on Sunday, January 4th 2015 (following the UTC+08:00 time zone). ********************************************************************** The above quote is taken from the Contest news story if anyone is interested. I guess I am not alone in looking forward to hearing what is going on with this contest. Congrats to fgi the winner - well done mate solid scores across all three legs.
  9. Dude you are getting real good at this stuff. Time for some of the manufactures to take notice. With a bit of support and some binned hardware you will challange the top ten in no time. Not bad for a old fart. Not bad at all.
  10. Interesting that you found that particular memory strap the most efficient for you. Nice benching as always my friend.
  11. Good contest and well done to all that competed. Ian as always good work.
  12. Indeed it is mate - things are going to be very interesting this contest I think.
  13. Cheers for the good weeks benching Ian, have had a good sleep today to recover. Many thanks to the 18000 who watched us over the live-stream during that 3 day period. And especially big thanks to OCUK and Ian for having me up there again. Certainly there are more questions than answers after this last week, but we will get them sorted Ian I can assure you mate.
  14. Guys may I suggest that until such time as there is a fail safe mechanism built into the verification process we suspend points for this benchmark. The testing that I have done for our team has shown way to huge a divergence of scores and methods of manipulating the scores. There is no harm in trying something. There is potential for harm in once trying and finding out it is not fit for purpose in its current form, of persisting doggedly with that experiment. Shelve or suspend for now, reinstate once sorted.
