  1. Hey all, August will probably be a not-so-productive month in terms of new features. Frederik will need most of his spare time to paint walls in the new house he moved into as well as make sure that same house is completely baby-proof by the end of August. If there's some spare time left, we'll just use it to fix bugs and add super-small features.

  11. Just did the lucky draw. As usual, I just pulled all result_ids from the database and randomized them using the services of random.org Lucky winner: Slamms! (http://hwbot.org/submission/2189492)
  12. I came across one of these guys' review and decided to check out their website. Rather quickly I realised this site seems to hand out awards and high-point scores on a regular basis. In fact ... they do it in every single review. I'm done with this website. Their point-scoring metholody is pretty much useless (giving almost everything 9/10 or higher) and so area their awards. I sincerely hope no hardware vendors are bragging with those awards ... they just give them away for free it seems. And although there supposed to be a system for the awards, they seem to be handed out almost randomly. Some products have the exact same score, but still receive different awards! An overview. Just picked the last 5 reviews in the categories. Processors: - AMD Phenom II X6 1100T Black Edition (9/10, silver award) - Intel Core i7-950 (10/10, gold award) - Intel Core i7-2600K Processor (10/10, gold and performance award) - Intel Core i5-2500K Processor (10/10, gold award) - AMD Phenom II X4 975 Black Edition (9/10, silver award) - Phenom 2 X4 980 Black Edition (9/10, recommended) - AMD A6-3650 Accelerated Processor (8/10, value award) Mainboards: - Intel DP67BG Motherboard (9/10, performance award) - Intel DH67BL Motherboard (9/10, silver award) - ECS A890GXM-A2 Black Extreme (9/10, value award) - Sapphire Pure Platinum A75 (9/10, recommended award) - Sapphire Pure Platinum H67 (9/10, recommended award) - ASRock Fatal1ty P67 Performance (9/10, performance award) - ASRock Z68 Pro3 (9/10, value award) - 990FXA-UD7 (10/10, gold award) - Gigabyte A75-UD4H (9/10, recommended award) - Maximus IV Gene-Z (10/10, gold award) - Fatal1ty Z68 Professional Gen3 (10/10, gold and performance award) Power Supplies: - Silencer 760W (10/10, gold award) - OCZ ZX Series 850W (9/10, silver award) - Corsair GS800 (9/10, silver award) - High Current Gamer 900W (9/10, value award) - Corsair HX1050 (9/10, performance award) Graphics cards: - Sapphire 6950 DiRT 3 Edition (10/10, gold and value award) - ASUS Matrix GTX 580 (10/10, diamond award) - Powercolor Radeon 6950 PCS+ Vortex 2 (10/10, gold award) - HIS Radeon 6970 IceQ Mix (9/10, recommended award) - NVIDIA's GTX 580M (9/10, performance award) Memory: - Kingston HyperX DDR3-2400 (10/10, gold and performance award) - Kingston HyperX DDR3-1600 LoVo (10/10, gold award) - Corsair Vengeance 12GB (10/10, gold and value award) - Corsair Vengeance DDR3 Kit (9/10, value award) - Crucial Ballistix Smart Tracer DDR3 Kit (9/10, recommended award) - G.Skill Ripjaws DDR3 Kit (9/10, recommended award) - Kingston HyperX t1 DDR3 Kit (9/10, recommended award) - Patriot Viper Xtreme DDR3 Kit (9/10, performane award) I hate this kind of 'give-us-hardware-and-we-give-you-award' websites. Just look at this: Fatality Z68 on the left and ROG Gene Z68 on the right. Same scores, but the ASUS board does not get the performance award? Also, the Value score for both boards is the same although the Gene board is significantly cheaper! Gigabyte 990FX - exactly the same score. That's three mainboard reviews in a row with the same evaluation numbers ... Seems it's also allowed to round up or down in whatever way you want: - 10+9+8+8 = 35 / 4 = 8.75 => Overall 8 - 10+10+8+10 = 38 / 4 = 9.5 => Overall 10
  13. Sometimes it's a challenge for AMD fans, sometimes for Intel fans, sometimes for both fans ... every month a little bit different !

  15. Mean Machine is correct: whoever submits the score first, wins. From the dbase, I can see that Luck_n00b submitted the 1179.6MHz result first and then Ekky_jengkol updated his existing score with the new score. So, Lucky_n00b finished 2nd. I'm passing on the contact information of the winners to GeIL today. Expect an email shortly
  16. The Enhance Corsa is rated at 1.5V; the Evo Corsa at 1.65V. Hold on! I'm still testing the Evo Corsa C9-11-9 kit. It's quite a lot better than this kit
  17. Don't mind the score. This dude has had a couple of dozen accounts now.
  18. Short Intro So, I had the opportunity to test the two kits from the new GeIL memory line-up: Enhance Corsa and Evo Corsa. First up, the more mainstream Enhance Corsa kit, which comes in the following flavours: - 1333MHz CL9-9-9-24, 2GBx2 Dual Channel Kit | GEC34GB1333C9DC - 1333MHz CL9-9-9-24, 4GBx2 Dual Channel Kit | GEC38GB1333C9DC - 1600MHz CL9-9-9-28, 2GBx2 Dual Channel Kit | GEC34GB1600C9DC - 1600MHz CL9-9-9-28, 4GBx2 Dual Channel Kit | GEC38GB1600C9DC - 1333MHz CL9-9-9-24, 2GBx4 Quad Channel Kit | GEC38GB1333C9QC - 1333MHz CL9-9-9-24, 4GBx4 Quad Channel Kit | GEC316GB1333C9QC - 1600MHz CL9-9-9-28, 2GBx4 Quad Channel Kit | GEC38GB1600C9QC - 1600MHz CL9-9-9-28, 4GBx4 Quad Channel Kit | GEC316GB1600C9QC Pictures of Box and Kit Test Setup Nothing special about the test setup. Just a normal Sandy Bridge build. - Core i7 2600k - GIGABYTE GA-P67A-UD5-B3(*) - Coolermaster Silent Pro 1000W - WD Raptor - Windows 7 64-bit SP0 - Y-Cruncher - SuperPI 32M (*) overvolts 0.02-0.03V on Vdimm from BIOS. OC Overview Chart Overview of OC test results. Stability was tested with full SuperPI-32M run at ~ 4.8GHz and then verified with a round of Y-Cruncher (0,1,6). Overall, not much difference between both benchmarks: it either worked or it didn't. As for voltage affecting this kit's overclocking capabilities, it seems that the sweetspot is around 1.5V-1.55V. As you can see from the report, sometimes increasing the voltage made the kit more unstable. Max Results Given the results above, I didn't spend that much time pushing the memory to it's maximum. In the end, I reached DDR3-1720 CL9-9-9 SuperPI-32M stable, probably limited by the BCLK of this CPU. [hwbot=2195091]submission[/hwbot] Conclusive Lines This kit is quite clearly designed with only the price and looks in mind. I kind of like the looks, but as the French say "Des goûts et des couleurs, on ne discute pas" (meaning as much as it's not possible to discuss about taste and colors). So, the looks are totally up to you to decide. In terms of performance, this kit seems to be on par with all the other kits in the same price category (~ 52/55 €), this kit being slightly cheaper. But, this depends from region to region. In other words, this kit will do just fine if you're looking for a cheap 2x 4GB kit!
  19. Proposal: Before we consider removing the benchmark, we try with new and updated rules. If turns out there are many problems even with the new rules, we can always remove the benchmark. The new rules include: - No ramdisk or MFT software allowed - XP startup cap removed - Benchmark must run on default web browser (Internet Explorer, any version) and default audio/video codec - Browser enhancement tweaks such as disabling/removing features, plugins, make-up etc are allowed - Audio and video codec tweaks are allowed. Powertoy is, as GUI for the registry, allowed Note: as any other benchmark, PCMark05 an still give bugged runs as output. When the moderating staff comes across a result that seems out of line for the given setup, we can (and will) contact the user for more information. In that case, the score can of course be approved if the higher performance is the result of extensive tweaking. Usually bugged runs are far out of line and easy to spot. The XP startup cap removal is open for discussion. I would suggest to either keep it at 220MB/s or remove it completely; increasing the limit will just post-pone the current problem and it will be brought up in the future again. I'm fine either way: with or without cap limit. Let us know what you think.
  20. It's completely impossible.
