yosarianilives
Okay this year Cheapaz has been slightly later than normal but there's also been a lot of related comps, you can think of the GTX 260 comp as round 1 Anyways it is finally time to pick a card for Cheapaz 2023! It has been suggested to pick a card with 128bit bus this time to avoid hunting rare cards that DON'T have ddr3 and I think thisis a good idea. Proposed generations are Geforce 8000, 9000, 200 series or AMD HD 3000, 4000, 5000 series). Vote on what generation you'd like to see and we will select an appropriate card after some precursory vetting to make sure this is a comp about mods and not ebay hunt skills
exaberries
another tesla 2.0 comp would feel to similar, gts 250 excluded obviously
RJGamesAhoy
Would really love to see a 4000 Series one! don't have any cards, are plenty cheap overall, and should be fun!

RJGamesAhoy
I think if HD4000 is chosen, RV740 is the play, generally complaints surround memory limitations and card varients, all 4770/4750 cards have GDDR5 from what i can find, the cards are also different than RV710, and repeating RV710 would be a poor idea i think. exaberries
rv 740 does look pretty good to me, lots of ambient benching potential outside of the comp as well also cpu really shouldn't impact fps much in vantage (gpu) or cloud gate (gpu), even 03 seems to generally not care too much since 5.1 haswell has first place in front of 5.7 kaby
Nuts and Volts
So far AMD cards seem to be winning, I would love to see crossfire for the comp since more motherboard support it than SLI. PCIe lanes will barely matter for bandwidth.
macsbeach98
HD 5000 series seems easy enough for everyone. 2
exaberries
5770 has been done in 2020 though unfortunetly.... Edited April 1 by exaberries
AKM
HD 4770; no cooling restriction, no platform restriction - limit cpu speed to 5.0g or something Vantage Perf GPU score 3DMark 03 Aquamark Go go go

nicegab
I searched quickly ..HD 4750/4770 are not very easy to find at a good price. very few cards for sale compared to HD4870. if you want more people to participate you have to take cards that are easy to find. Also, I think something like Cape verde for stage 1 and GM107 or GK107 for stage 2 would be fun as well.
exaberries
that pretty much leaves only 4870 or 5870 left then
macsbeach98
5870 seems easy and cheap to find.
Tech Tested
I say HD 4870/4890. Cloudgate GPU Vantage Performance Heaven basic Edited April 1 by Tech Tested
Bones
6870's are out there too, not bad on the pricing overall and looks to be enough of them to go around. Edited April 2 by Bones
exaberries
4870 is decent, same with 5870, i'd suggest 6850 or 6950/6970 for 6000 series for context though there is 2 4870s on ebay.ca, 1 5870, quite a few 6850, but not many 6950 at decent prices I agree with cloudgate gpu and vantage gpu as benches, not a big fan but wouldn't hate heaven Edited April 2 by exaberries
AKM
HD 4870; no cooling restriction, no platform restriction - cpu freq limited to 5.03ghz ? Vantage Perf GPU Score Cloud Gate GPU Score Aquamark3 Go go go Heaven is gross, way too long. Only reason I suggest Aqua3 is it's quick to loop re runs. Tech Tested
Benchmarks should be platform agnostic. Doesnt seem in the spirit of a "cheap" comp if you need the latest platform to be competitive 6870 is a good alternative to 4870 imo. Bother are good options
SolidStateAlchemy
Country cup had an HD 3000 and an HD 6000 stage, so HD 5000 would fill in the gap. US ebay has a ton of 5870s on it for reasonable prices.

Nobody seems to want tesla arch this time lol
yosarianilives
Okay so I'd say poll is probably not really gonna change much. I'm going with 5000 series. Gonna look at benches and see what a good spread is, also find a start date
yosarianilives
I'm thinking HD 5770 and benches of 3dm05, 3dm11 graphics score, and vantage. Please share thoughts on this
