K404 Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 I think i'm ready to try my 990X now Disclaimer: I'm not that ham-fisted. I just wanted the IHS for a keyring. Chip is long dead. A T-rex killed it Quote
knopflerbruce Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 Send it to TiN, he will solder it on to a new PCB:D Quote
K404 Posted February 7, 2012 Author Posted February 7, 2012 LOL ....yea, I was thinking something similar. Ilya will turn it into a functioning hexcore chip using only some cardboard and paperclips. On his lunch break. Quote
Mean Machine Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 Nice going there. Glue it back on and RMA it. EDIT: Oh, you didn't do it on your 990X. Wuss. Quote
Masterchief79 Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 Same thing happened to me on a 8800GTX, but that was on purpose, i didnt know that it was possible to do this by accident. To remove the IHS of an old P4, I just used a hot air blower and a flat-iron which worked perfetly. Quote
ARandomOWL Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 I once made a keyring from an 8800GTS. Didn't use it for long cos it was too noisy. Quote
K404 Posted February 7, 2012 Author Posted February 7, 2012 (edited) which cpu was that? It (was) an SL5VR Celeron 1.3. I'm pretty sure it was in a computer I found in a bin 4-5 years ago. Edited February 7, 2012 by K404 Quote
Crew Turrican Posted February 7, 2012 Crew Posted February 7, 2012 ah, i thought so. i feel sorry for that cpu tough. Quote
K404 Posted February 7, 2012 Author Posted February 7, 2012 It's my first ever IHS removal Even if IHS attachment methods have changed, I have learned some things for sure Quote
Christian Ney Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 It's my first ever IHS removal Even if IHS attachment methods have changed, I have learned some things for sure yep, don't do it with a nail Quote
