I had no luck with those 7970 cards. I tested about 20+ till now and found a decent one on air just some days ago lol.

on ln2 we tested about 5-6 cards, no one could do 1500+ .. 2 lightnings neither

wow 20+ cards is alot. I only have the 1 that I tested. 1315 air heaven, no mods (1900+ memory possible)

mabye im just lucky (alot)

7970 is a visiontek ghz edititon (has all phases, not missing 1 like ref) i use this for gaming. far cry 3 is really fun atm.

cpu is good (6.8+, best of 5 samples tested, all retail bought from Frys)

mem is good (2600 c8 air for psc and bbse almost every kit i have can do this)

imc is 2800 32m capable

lucky luck is lucky? none of my stuff is hand pick. all retail ordered so i didnt choose samples.

i think some of chew*'s "always work" philosophy has rubbed off on me :D

only 5-6 of them was under ln2 but all sucked. because of that little shim over the gpu or just bad contact or just they were bad clockers.

now i have a rented cpu from INTEL which is my best one ( 6.7 valid ) and bought a good PSC kit ( 2600 c8 32m ) and now this card seems good with 1300/ 1850+ heaven

im maxin her out right now ;)

watch the core clocks at the limit. I noticed mine wanted to jump up and down a bit hurting score.

1300/1850 is the max of this.

1310/1850 passes but lower score, or freeze just at the end :D

now onto the 2k11 just for fun.

that bench is absolutely RAM mhz limited ...

If you want to run 7970 on LN2, you have to remove the shim :)

Use copper plate - 0.5mm thick, I did with it 1750+ on my golden lightning ;)

tried that too.

the problem was with the cores actually as they sucked :D

anyway with the copper plate you have to be really careful to have a good mount

you have a badass card. i would give my half arm for a 1600mhz benchable one --
