Agreed about older hw, any bclk/fsb platform should allow server chips as they're essentially the same as consumer cpus and often use the same sockets and were popular at the time. I think lga 2011 and newer would be a good cutoff for not allowing xeons in comps as there is actual core count differences after that, as well as the general rarity of unlocked xeon high core count chips.

At high bclk its too much for the imc, imc cuts out at 2250-2340ish on sandy chips typically from my testing.

I've found corsair ver 2.1, and some other brands like patriot (2000 8-8-8 is probably hypers). As for finding golden hypers, it's about as ez as finding golden psc on ebay. Best way is to buy a bunch of sticks and bin and see if you notice patterns with certain sticks vs others.

I've gotten all of mine for the same price as psc ($10-20 per stick) just by waiting and knowing what to look for.

I think in this case he wants pre-binned sticks though
