I class it as marketing.... it's a bigger demographic. IMHO, gamers don't need the robust feature set of the ROG line to have stable, durable boards (and GPUs) The name doesn't have to mean anything... same as "worlds first OC board" it's just to grab attention. Maybe Asus called it a gaming board to make it easier to get a Green light from management? This! :D

Gigabyte employees have admitted they kept certain features so the board appealed to a wider market, so to be devils advocate, X58A-OC - useless features = OC board? The thing that makes a great overclocking board is... that it overclocks well. Feature set is irrelevant, other than cost aspect. This might be a great board... we don't know because theres still so damned little info on it!

IMHO it'd good to have a few surprises in a competition... sometimes it gives folk an opportunity they might not normally get... it's the best thing about proper qualifiers. Keeps things interesting ya know.... instead of the same faces alllllll the time

Well..... when you're running 1050MHz+ on X58 @ 7-7-7, you're in the territory of IMC limits. Could the conclusion be swayed by a Golden combination of Flare RAM on the best ICs... or are the sticks tuned better? Can Flares run tighter timings? The RAM SPD/BIOS DOES have an effect on performance efficiency. You can test and confirm that easily yourself.

I.... have no idea how you got these graphs. s1155.... isn't Hyper really badly supported at BIOS level? It's also out of production. Do Flares run 6-7-6 on X58 or something? Are the RAM BIOS/SPD tweaked for better efficiency than Dom-GT, GTX etc?
