  1. Possible design for a "legacy cheapaz": Limits: DDR2 or DDR1, Netburst only, 1-core only light singlethread - pifast? heavy singlethread - superpi 32m? light multithread - wprime 32m? heavy multithread - x265 1080p, perhaps? 4K would just be sadistic... tiebreak - CPU-Z max valid (can has 8GHz?) 3D is a weird one, some kind of CPU bound 3D is tempting but really it would still add to cost. iGPU would be interesting but I feel it would result in being quite prescriptive about motherboard, again it'd be great for team cup where you can get away with requiring more specific hardware.
  2. The fun thing about an APU is the iGPU is tied to a CPU anyway, so there's no way to gain an advantage from many-core monsters
  3. Unfortunately not every comp can be designed for you personally to be in a good position to win. I'm making these suggestions but my one kit of b-die isn't very good, nor are any of my AM4 boards. If I wanted a genuine chance of winning I'd have to spend as much as you would. But the point of cheapaz chips is really to provide a way for newer people with an interest in OC - many of whom are already on AM4 - to play with hardware that they don't have to worry about killing. If we pick arbitrary limitations that make sure the one board that you personally can get cheap on ebay is the most competitive then you can compete and win, good for you, but it would exclude a lot of people particularly the newbies that cheapaz is aimed at. All the past cheapaz chips competitions have been based around 3D stages with a recent low-end GPU - GT710, GT1030 and HD 5450/rebrands. The problem is we're running out of options, low-end discrete GPUs are going away in favour of integrated, which is why I propose a competition based around that. The 3000G while it requires buying into a platform on some level is a much cheaper chip than a GT 1030, killing/damaging it with too much Vcore would be fairly painless. I also think it's just cool for there to be an unlocked chip at such a low price point, and being new I think makes it more interesting/relevant to people outside OC.
  4. For a possible legacy/Intel cheapaz it's true 775 is common, but I also agree with @ObscureParadox that P4 arch doesn't get much love - it's always 45nm core 2 duos. This can also be cheaper hardware to make @Mythical tech happy. Good possible limitations for a "legacy cheapaz" might be: Use only CPUs from the family Netburst (Pentium 4, 65nm), Netburst (Pentium 4, 90nm) - could also add the other netbursts maybe? I figure there's no harm in it and I like the idea of a competition being open to extra unoptimal hardware. Use only 1 core (I want to avoid xeons and the 2c4t Pentium EE messing with it) Use only DDR2 or DDR1 memory
  5. I think 5 stages would be good - two 2D, two 3D and a tie break of some sort with the tie break worth less points. Don't want to make it too long. The 3000G will probably be a pain to run on anything other than 10 so benches need to be OK for windows 10, I guess mostly this just means mandatory benchmate. I think; 2D 1 - light/singlethreaded - cpu-z max frequency or superpi 2D 2 - heavy/multithreaded - CB15 or HWBOT x265 4K 3D 1 - light/CPU bound - ice storm unlimited or a legacy 3DMark if they work with benchmate 3D 2 - heavier/GPU bound - night raid, or maybe sky diver? Tiebreaker - cpu-z max memory frequency, maybe? I'm not sure about the tiebreaker, as it might bias a bit towards boards that have a clockgen and I'd like if B450 boards could be competitive. A separate legacy cheapaz would be cool, cheapaz has always celebrated cheap new hardware as it's easier to get in places that don't have a good used market (think india, turkey, south america). But legacy would be good too. @Mythical tech maybe the 6100 iGPU suggestion could go in the team cup thread as it's very specific. Socket 754 MCP61 boards also don't seem very easy to find to me. Some iGPU stages in team cup would be fun though.
  6. Corsair 2000 8-8-8-24 kit, €60/£50 as above, discount negotiable if you take both SOLD
  7. €60/£50 for kit. Not binned/tested properly, tested at >800MHz 6-6-5 on a Foxconn blackops to confirm IC. Have a Corsair kit with the same XMP somewhere, will add that for the same price once I've found it and double-checked it's working. SOLD EDIT: Ran memtest on the kingston kit at XMP for completeness;
  8. Lewis in there with the late scores as per :P This one found on a USB stick too?
  9. I want to note that chilli-man got 16 points higher than me here, sadly there was a mistake in his screenshot, but this score is second in spirit.
  10. A way to choose participation would be a good solution IF new requirements are going to be added. Ideally on a per submission basis. I don't think it would be a good outcome if seasonal rankings interfere with the benching of people who aren't interested in them. Extra regulations also probably means more silly reports for mods to deal with.
  11. I know it's tempting to react very strongly, but I hope we can avoid anything that would make it more of a struggle to explain to noobs everything they need to do to prove a score. It would also be nice if regular scores didn't have all the extra stuff that comps need - backgrounds can be a pain as many people bench with unactivated windows that resets them, system time is also lost when clearing cmos so it'd be nice not to have to worry about that. Requiring a fairly recent CPU-Z version (with separate date proof an option for tryhards concerned that newer cpu-z is 'too heavy') is reasonable and shouldn't hurt noobs. I'll be honest, I'd always assumed that for verification I should use reasonably recent CPU-Z anyway. I'm not sure a new rule is needed though - these are the actions of one idiot, and they were caught immediately. I'd hate to see seasonal rankings get in the way of multi-year-old backups, scores found on old USB sticks, etc. Unless someone is clearly trying to manipulate the ranking - in which case clearly they can be caught already - it would be better to just not worry about it IMO. The seasonal rankings don't give prizes, they're just a friendly competition, it shouldn't have to have bulletproof verification.
  12. How well did this board work for you cold? I gave mine a go recently and had problems loading OS below -100C, as well as 3D issues at even higher temperatures.
  13. wait a sec YOU LEFT SECURITY CENTRE ENABLED SPECIFICALLY JUST TO GET ON MY NERVES
  14. Thanks, there's definitely much more to be extracted but maybe when I have more time. It's a very frustrating platform but mostly because there are so many unknown quirks.
  15. Update: On a different board (Asus F2A85-V PRO, thanks for asking) I followed the basic steps of "Install OS and drivers on iGPU, install 7750, receive bacon" to no avail. Being an impatient sod who was getting deeply frustrated I changed multiple things at once, but worked was one or both of; Semi-blindly deleting all the registry keys for some "standard VGA graphics adapter" devices Installing the 7750 while an overclock was applied on the iGPU (in addition to having iGPU multi-monitor enabled and the iGPU forced on in bios) Checking back my notes I believe that previously when I was testing with this asus board and added the 7750, the iGPU was probably overclocked. I guess it might force it to be enabled or something?
  16. I think there is a discussion to be had about this, but I'm too busy benching to have it right now. Can we revisit this in maybe February?
  17. I know some people have had some trouble getting hybrid crossfire in this and similar weird unofficial configurations to work... myself included! I want to share my steps that have led to it enabling itself while they're fresh in my mind. Many of these might be totally irrelevant, in fact hopefully most of them are, but this is still black magic so anything that could possibly have affected it is included. Hardware is A10-6800K, Asrock FM2A88M Extreme4+ and Sapphire Ultimate passive 7750. Monitor is some BenQ thing connected with a passive HDMI to DVI adapter cable (HDMI on the system, DVI on the monitor). If any hardware other than that affects it, I'm quitting OC. Set system up with iGPU, no 7750 Configure bios with PCIe graphics as default but iGPU explicitly enabled, share memory set to 2GB Make fresh install of Windows 7 64-bit SP1, using a flash drive that was created with the asrock USB driver injection tool for AM4 Install Catalyst Omega 14.12 (downloaded from guru3d, filename "[Guru3D]-amd-catalyst-omega-14.12-with-dotnet45-win7-64bit.exe"). Custom install was chosen and everything but the driver, CCC and mandatory components (I think only the install manager was mandatory) was unchecked. Install 3DMark06, CPU-Z 1.90.1 and GPU-Z 2.27.0 Run 3DMark06 4 times testing different memory settings Notice a weird drop in CPU score, install furmark and copy portable prime95 and hwinfo64 onto system to check if there's power/thermal throttling Try to start hwinfo64, it complains it needs KB3033929 for driver signing, install KB3033929. Spend 2 hours banging your head against the wall trying to figure out why CPU score keeps getting worse (THIS STEP IS MANDATORY) Set up k15tk (it needs winring0 dlls so I unzip throttlestop 8.70.6 then move the k15tk exe into the throttlestop folder), try to use that to force max pstate Realise that asrock boards need turbo core enabled and no it won't interfere with your oc, re-enable turbo core Do a couple more 3DMark06 runs Set memory back to stock, power off system Install 7750, move HDMI cable from motherboard output to 7750 Power system on. Open the detailed 'found new hardware' information, wait patiently for it to all run and finish. Reboot, wait patiently again CCC pops up after a minute or two with dual graphics configuration Hopefully this helps. I imagine it can probably be boiled down to: Install OS and drivers on iGPU Spend 2 hours banging your head against the wall trying to figure out why CPU score keeps getting worse Install 7750 Let windows auto-install 7750 drivers, be patient It's also worth highlighting that nowhere in this steps is any OS stripping/optimisation. That comes later...
  18. Hybrid is very interesting, I'm glad of the excuse to take a proper crack at it to be honest. PCI looks interesting too.
