  1. Just wondering... I'm testing an areca 1882ix w/4gb cache on some old crap setup, but it feels like it's not making any use of the cache... thought i'd have to cripple XP startup even on old k8 singlecores, but I haven't been past 150 yet, usually stuck at ~135-140. First run is usually lower, about 80 or so (that's with 4 m4's, using just one i get the same score during the 2nd run, but 1st run is like 35 (!) ). Any of you gurus know what's up?
  2. It also says the enthusiast league is "the entry league for new overclockers". Being experienced enough to get WR points in this league, you're no longer a rookie and should move on.
  3. We could always merge the two leagues. Since cooling method doesn't really mean THAT much when it comes to scores produced (based on a few recent scores that is really the only conclusion), then why separate by cooling at all? If you can get WR points by using ambient cooled gear, there is no real need to have an enthusiast league at all... IMO. We used to think LN2 and air were like night and day, but we were proven wrong.
  4. The easiest would be if people cared enough to knock air/water scores out of the WR point discussion for good:D
  5. Meme abuse alert:D
  6. So, any new arguments? I don't see a reason to revivie this thread if it's just going to be the first 9 pages al over again. Massman explained why the rules are the way they are, and although I don't agree 100% the thought is good. If you have the resources to run and bin 4 GPUs + 1 CPU - neither of them cheap at all - then why don't you go subzero as well?
  7. The answer to the 2nd question is easy. Try again.
  8. This is a thread for SHARING RELATED POSTS, not general b*tching towards Honda. Not asking you to love the guy, just don't post your shit here...
  9. I guess it all comes down to what you define as tweaking. Is messing with memory settings more tweaking than messing with settings related to the core frequency? Memory also scales with cold, so if avoiding Ln2 subs is a part of it you have to set some memory limits that are fairly easily achievable on air so there is no benfit going from air to LN2. Just my 2 cents.
  10. Heeeey, either i got this meme wrong or you abused "good guy greg"! This sounds more like insanity wolf:D C'mon man!
  11. Just curious... where did you find this CPU? You didn't buy a complete HTPC just to grab this gold cup, did you?
  12. A while ago someone said that it's not our job to prove that scores are fake, its the users who have to prove that they are real. Just saying I don't think demanding video evidence is a good idea, but if you arrange a huge event and people do bench at similar speeds questions WILL be asked, so it's a good idea to make sure you have something to offer in case people wonder if some sharing was going on. I find it a good thing that people report results, would be kinda lame if nobody would report possible crimes to the police IRL, no?
  13. I think this was already discussed a long time ago (and it it's obviously a sharing case, the clock + similarities in screenshots almost prove that 100%), and the verdict was misunderstanding of the rules regarding sharing or something like that, so no penalty given.
  14. Proving HW sharing is indeed difficult. You can be 99.9% sure, but (almost) never 100% sure. The question is more how sure we should be before we have to take action. If we set the bar at 100% it's all in the hands of the cheaters.
  15. Ticket ID: 1518 Priority: Low http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/K8/AMD...BDOBOX%29.html\r\n\r\nmaybe I will add a CPUZ link here later, but it\'s quite close to the original 5400+.

  17. I would say that a person binning 200 chips for free receives excessive hardware support, no doubt. There are practially no differences between binning 200 CPUs in a store and 200 at some vendor's HQ (assuming all chips are retails). Vendor supported people were also regular guys until they got hired by a company. Same thing goes for the store supported people, regular guys... until they actually receive "excessive hardware support".
  18. Yes, that's a yes/no question, and I support the decision to force the people who use ES to go pro (if the user doesn't disable points for those submissions of course, then it's still OK).
  19. Then, what is the real criteria for being "forced" to enter the pro league? Must be something as simple as "yes/no" with NO exceptions whatsoever, then by your latest arguments:) receiving HW support from a vendor is a yes/no thing, but then we either allow ALL vendor support, or nothing at all in the OC league (that is, receiving one cpu equals receiving 1000). So basically, any guy working for a vendor could still be in the oc league as long as this person does not submit scores using engineering samples. Receving a paycheck from a vendor is not a good argument to force anyone go pro, a paycheck doesn't have anything to do with benching hardware.
  20. Here's one for you, massman:
  21. Found a company that gives you free hardware?
  22. Oh noes, you have to spend €5 in gas money to bin a few €300 CPUs. And how is time a factor here? It applies to everyone with access to lots of hardware, even vendor supported people who you want to stay in the pro league. If anything, that's an argument that supports my view - vendor supported people = shop supported people. If it's such a pain in the ass, why don't you refuse to be a CPu testing slave? You accept that work because of a good reason... it gives you a very nice edge in finding a golden chip, and it's alot cheaper than buying a bunch of CPUs on ebay and have mr postman deliver them, even though you save gas money that way. It's more OK than a store supported guy. At least you paid a price that's above retail level for the chip you tested, which is not the case in the scenario I wrote in my first post (then you tested 198 chips that you didn't pay a cent for, except gas money). "or get free hardware to bench with". Don't try to convince me that being allowed to bin 200 CPUs for free is not within the definition of getting "free hardware to bench with". The difference between benching and binning is not relevant, the system is used to gain ranks here, which is the important part. If they pay for their own stuff, I don't see the issue. shops don't get CPUs from Intel for free. The price is lower, but not an unreasonable amount lower (it's not like you can get a 3930k for 200 euros because you have a shop). I have a shitload of CPUs, but I've barely received anything from vendors. No CPUs so far, just a couple of mobos. I don't see why I should be moved to the pro league because I bought 500++ CPUs on ebay the past few years. Paid with my own hard earned money, unlike people who can meet up at a warehouse and bin through as many chips they like without paying for their rejects. I paid € for all my rejects. Disagree. Then we could just as well let vendor supported people choose, too.
