2600Pro is not the only card that has the 864MHz wall, 1950Pro has it too. There is also a permament fix which is to find a BIOS from a newer similar card that gets this issue sorted.

score is done with a 9800GT default 169.21 driver was pre-installed using another card and when the 9800GT was plugged in I went for the "Don't search, I'll choose the driver to install" option and forced 8800GT detection if you check the GPUID and the BIOS version - it's all there
