Testing GIGABYTE X79-UD7 ...
Massman replied to Massman's topic in Sandy Bridge-E / Ivy Bridge (X79) OC
How much chips you tested? I tested only the Sabertooth before and it had a similar MEMCLK wall as I experience now. DX79SI was even worse as it couldn't run DDR3-1200. I think I need that R4E to set baseline OC results with this chip. Interesting note about the MSI board. What were the DOA symptoms? No boot or just no power up? -
Testing GIGABYTE X79-UD7 ...

The IMC on this chip is not too good, so DDR3-2400C10 seems to be the max so far. Bclk goes upto 106MHz, but couldn't get the 1.25x to work yet. A couple of other bugs are in the F3k bios at the moment, but I think those will be solved rather quickly. LN2 runs coming up. -

Core disabling is not allowed for 'any' ranking at HWBOT, so also not allowed for the Country Cup -
A couple of things to check out as well: 1. Competition Points Overview Go to your user profile, then points tab. You'll see a competition points tab. Click it to get an overview of all your acquired competition points. 2. New Hardware/Benchmark Score Overview From now on, you will see how you and your team is ranking in a benchmark or hardware ranking just with one click. Go visit one of the benchmark or hardware overview pages (search in top search bar) and you'll see a nice overview of the benchmark records in that class (including your and your team's best score) 3. Benchmark Ranking Target Scores For every ranking you visit, the engine will give you two target scores: your best result and your team's best result. In other words, everytime you visit a ranking, you will see how you can improve your result in a second. Have fun!

Updated this: Right before we installed this release on production, we had a look at the team rankings and made this small update. For all teams with a rank higher than 25, the balance between GTTP (global teampowperpoints) and HTTP (hardware teampowerpoints) is 1/6 or smaller, meaning both have a great influence on your result. For ranks lower than 25, things are a bit more unbalanced, meaning you need more hardware teampowerpoints (ie: strong in hardware rankings).

Is a 3960X Thaat much better than a similary clocked 2600K?
Massman replied to Chi11ed's topic in General hardware discussion
It's normal that you will scan and use the highest quality silicon for your highest SKU. Lower leakage = higher quality. So, Intel will use the highest leakage chips for the 3960X SKU. At least at release date; I'm sure that as product ages, more depends on what the market demands rather than silicon quality. So top quality silicon, that usually would be reserved for top sku, would be used for other products because the demand is higher. -

Got the board in a couple of days ago, working my way through the BIOS now to get used to the board. It's the successor for the X58A-OC, so expectations are high. Setup - i7 3960X ES - X79-UD7 (bios F3k/F3n) - 4x 2GB Dominator GTX8 - GeForce 8400GS (for now) - Silent Pro M1000 PSU Pictures Just a few, there are far better pictures out on teh interw3bz already so you can check out those! Results - coming soon -

Yes. In fact, your country will still be ranked. However, any country with more scores, how bad they may be, will be ranked higher automatically. -

I'll give you a compromise. I won't: - do the AMD 3DMark11 stage - provide a 'best' result in any of the 6 other stages So, I'll help a bit, but won't be 'decisive' in any of the stages. Sounds good? Cards are gone and I just finished the competition background. The team will have to figured something else out! -

Is a 3960X Thaat much better than a similary clocked 2600K?
Massman replied to Chi11ed's topic in General hardware discussion
For SB-E, I'd wait for a couple of silicon respins. Most of the OCs that you see today are done with either ES or early retail samples, so the overclock is pretty similar. For SB, it took a few months before we got to 5.8 or even 6G as well. -

Is a 3960X Thaat much better than a similary clocked 2600K?
Massman replied to Chi11ed's topic in General hardware discussion
The generally accepted that an i7 3960X is only beneficial for 3DMark Vantage and 3DMark11 at this point. As long as the clocks won't go up, the chip will be slower than Sandy Bridge (in most benchmarks) and Gulftown (in some benchmarks). 3930K is pretty similar to 3960X (you hardly noticed the difference in cache), but is said to have more potential for higher clocks due to higher leakage.
