Nothing lasts forever - OC weekend in Intel Sweden
Lucky_n00b replied to SF3D's topic in Extreme overclocking
It's a pity to see you retire Petri You're one of those legends that I admire long time ago for what you can achieve with your hardware, especially with your liquid helium AMD runs back in the day. I wish you the best for whatever next projects you are doing in the future, and keep pushing it! -
Computex 2015: Who Is Going? Where are the OC events!
Lucky_n00b replied to Massman's topic in Offtopic
Yeah I'll be there doing some coverage for my website An event list would be very nice so I will know how many days I need to extend (and asking permission from my office to extend :p) -
How do you not eventually turn into a d-bag in overclocking?
Lucky_n00b replied to Splave's topic in Offtopic
Just as Albrecht said, Overclocking is a hobby, and competition are supposed to make things more enjoyable in this hobby of ours. And since the competitiveness of overclocking grows by the day, somebody will eventually find a way to get ahead of others, and this is NOT a crime. - Somebody found a legit tweak and won't share it? Let them be, it's their RIGHT to do so after spending some many hours searching for that particular tweak. Of course, If you find something that you wanted to share, it's always welcome - Somebody got a support/sponsor/sample/hardware-for-friends-only? Let them be. Maybe that somebody tried hard to get notified by their current sponsors, and spends most of their time testing/debugging stuff, and if that is rewarded, it is well-deserved, no? - Somebody binned a lot hardwares? Let them be. Binning requires an effort too, whether it's the money spend on binning, or searching for 'sponsors' to get them ahead of this sillicon lottery. After all, isn't overclocking all about doing whatever we can to make a piece of PC component go faster than it supposed to do? Why would we let anyone's action stopped us from having fun with our hobby? If by some reason, competing make this hobby less enjoyable, then don't compete, just overclock for whatever reasons that make you happy and enjoy it -
Take care man, hopefully we meet again in live competitions

The official HWBOT Country Cup 2014 thread.
Lucky_n00b replied to Massman's topic in HWBOT Competitions
Based on these years of Country Cup, for next year's CC Here's an idea: 1) Pi 32M Low-Clock Stage - would be interesting since there's broadwell next year - should be spread from high-end to low-end, and maybe just one legacy (LGA775/1156) - not too much submission per stage please, 7 is ok, 10 is too much 2) Enthusiast stage (with temp limits, so ambient cooling, limited to rookie/enthusiast/novice) - Limit hardware to mainstream ones for CPU & GPU? - just make sure the temp detection on the benchmark used is reliable - optional: if the benchmark needed a license, can hwbot ask futuremark to put a special discount for the members participating? we will appreciate it - 3 submission is okay, 5 maybe pushing it? 3) 'All-out' Single GPU Stage - 3-5 submission is okay, spread from low-end to highest-end - make it very GPU-bound, so CPU not matter much? (and epowering the low-end GPU will give advantage) - Pick bench which gives Global points, if possible 4) 'All-out' CPU Stage - pick 3-5 CPU, spread from low-end to high-end, do a multithreaded CPU-heavy bench. - Pick bench which gives Global points, if possible 5) 'Unknown' 24h stage - Specify some limitations in the beginning so people know it - Preferably spread across many hardware, and mainstream class (hopefully not like this year, where 290X and highest 8-core FX is necessary) - announce the benchmark 24h before stage ends - only 1 stage please 6) Target Stage - No hardware limitation, Specify a benchmark and rules. Pick a date to announce the target score, give special wallpaper for this one, and give 24hours to match the target, the first hit target wins. - 1 stage 7) Legacy hardware (CPU/GPU) + Legacy benchmark Stage - 1-3 Submission - Pick legacy hardware which gives lots of hardware point, to give it more incentive or better, make a 'comittee' one-two month earlier to discuss what benchmark/hardware should be put on Country Cup Just thinking out loud -

Not to speak bad of it, but that stage give us nightmares X_X. We didn't even got a single score on that platform until the last 15 minutes, since we was still trying to get better vishera pi stage beforehand. We didn't do any remount, and just use the last setup and install GPUs. I Guess condensation from previous session make the system behave erratically. But well, the stage is fun in its own way, nice to have variations in the competition mechanics -

Phew. Finally it's done. The last score almost didn't make it since the cpu/mobo seems to be damaged after the pi session. Quite lucky that the scores came out (although not very efficient clock-wise). Big Congratulations for Team AU, Great Team Effort, and well-deserved clean sweep win! (1st ever, afaik). Also for France & Romania, really nice competition during the Ice Storm, and Pi stage. It was really tiring, but we had fun overclocking for these last couple of days. Great job everyone, see you guys in another competition! -

Some of your air/water result are still better than what we have on LN2 right now, i can assure you (and you already got all 10 submission done) We're still troubleshooting some stuff now, and will probably be still benching pi until the last day, really stressed out x_x -

Oh glad to hear that, at least we will be able to score something out, and won't need to search & buy some rare hardware. Looking forward to the benchmarks then -

Wait, so it's any AMD CPU and AMD GPU? Not some specific AMD Hardware? -

Hahahahah that picture is almost as old as the Internet Btw, sometimes we Indonesian don't sandbag that much(the Aussies done it much better, and with epic score too :ws:), we just happen to bench at the last day due to some circumstances LOL :D -
I have the same concern, but I think it would make sense for the 2014 Country Cup be held in 2014 (not 2015), And every year it's always been the 'closing' competition, so I don't mind having it in December. But if I may suggest something: Could the hardware requirement for 2014 Country Cup be announced earlier?(it's almost november now) Would be hard to search for the hardware if it's announced too close to the competition date..
