XOC is allowed and we have no option to detect ES on memory apart from the picture of the stick. The problem on this is that there are too much "ES" (aka vendor binned, handpicked sample) which we can not determine by spd anyway...

CF or SLI is different from single ranking, this has nothing to do with this rule we discuss here and you should know this... - if you have 30 minutes of time, please sit down and check the 6950 and 6970 category and think about the rule again and why it was created this way. The explanation by mickulty is nothing than the rules. It should be clear that you can not allow the same piece of hardware to be submitted at different categories, which is possible with an unlockable 6950 if I follow your idea. I could use it for 6950 and 6970, simply by using original BIOS and then unlock BIOS. It would not even be cheating. You also can not allow people to cherry pick to which category they submit, because then there will be people who always submit in favour of their personal advantage. We would have no option to prevent this from happening if I follow your arguments. And what you say, that an unlocked 290 is a 290x, is not true - a 290 is a 290, if you send it to rma you will not get a 290x in return, if I check the device ID it will show me that this is a 290...it will always be a 290 flashed with another BIOS To finish this for me, two points I saw in this discussion and by checking a few results. The staff can not rely on ethics. This is sad but true. I found people that submitted the same card, unlocked, for both 6950 and 6970 at same benchmark category to grab more points for their ranking. I found people who did submit the exactly same card for some benchmarks at 6950 and other benchmarks at 6970, depending on which gave more points. I also saw people who used card locked for 6950, unlocked it, and then submitted to 6970. Point two, we have no option to determine a general rule for unlocked hardware other then the one existing. D – Hardware Unlocking Again this is a subject where we have to trust on the honesty of the submitter; if you have a CPU with unlocked multiplier, please only submit results under the hardware category of its original model. Don’t emulate other models to gain HWboints, if you are caught you will get penalized or even banned. The same goes for video cards which are modified either with a flashed BIOS or modded software, post your scores in the category of the original hardware. It is allowed to unlock extra cores and cache if your processor allows that. Again, you do have to submit your result to the category of the original hardware. A piece of hardware is defined by its microcode or vendor id, we can only identify it by this, if this is possible at all (some old amd cpus are not fully defined). The rule was created, long before I joined staff, because some people were not sure where to submit, and some simply cheated and submitted same hardware at several different categories to maximize personal cups and points. If you have a better way to prevent this from happening, guarantee the integrity of hardware database at same time and also keep it simple, let us know, we are always in when it comes to improvements at handling for both benchers and mods. This is the best example that some people are too lazy to read the rules or to understand even crystal clear formulated rules, or obviously simply ignore them - this is what you prove . This whole unlock "plan" by amd plus the tons of rebrands they produce without even changing device ids makes especially handling vga categories by AMD extremely hard. We can only rely on people to go by rules that we try to keep as easy as possible. I do not think that ignoring these is helpful attitude, and it also is not helpful for a fair competition between benchers. P.S. @superpatodonaldo We currently discuss if we use a similar solution like we use on unlocked cpus, where all cpus go to same category but different ranking. Not sure this makes sense though, it will make the category more or less worthless for ranking when it is split up on points, but it could be technically done. In the end for staff it will not change much imho because lots of people will still don´t care where they submit to^^

Amien - Sempron 145 @ 3401.7MHz - 1690.56 pps HWBOT Prime

Keep on benching, the scores of 1 and two core go to same category but different ranking. Because of this it makes sense to improve both scores to the max -
hambaaaallah - Core i7 6700K @ 4900MHz - 1795 marks XTU
websmile replied to RULE's topic in Result Discussions
If it is 5,1ghz like XTU says, this result is OK at given settings -- apart from the fact it most likely killed cpu -
We do not agree that often, Roman, but you write exactly what I thought when I followed the discussion. Also the pecking on legacy benchmarks doesnt make that much sense, this all leads hwbot into a direction even more dominated by money. We already stripped the most benched 3ds and old 2ds of wr points to level things, we have 6/12 wr and global for 2d and 9/13 wr and global points for 3d already. If we focus even more on new benchmarks for ranking that need near 3k rig without vga and any binning effort, we will kill hwbot faster than any other way...

Too complicated to make extra category for this, and when AMD decides to sell hardware this way, we cannot influence this. When we force 6950 unlocked to 6970, people will ask "why" as well, because standard clocks of 6970 are a lot higher than 6950. So we take the old solution that worked long years, for me this is no questions of ethics, if we discuss this way what do we say about voltmodding and epower then? You are forced to destroy a card more or less to be successful... If one does, all others have to do as well, and this moves on to cooling, binning etc. Hardware is the way it is, some if unlockable, if you want to win search for these modles
-
Please keep the hardware at its original place, it is hard enough for us to keep track even now. Even if your unlock 6950 beats best 6970, keep it at 6950. I hope I understood your question correctly, if not feel free to explain again

Asrock Z87M endless on/off-common problem?
websmile replied to Strunkenbold's topic in Haswell (Z87/Z97) OC
I had similar issues 2 times, once I fixed it by unplugging power, doing clear and removing battery for hours, after this all worked again. Second time this did not help, I had to remove cpu and re-insert to fix it. What causes this actually, I have no idea, it occured randomly, once at benching when I unplugged after failed settings, second time out of nowhere. -
General rules, 3.2 paragraph D - I wanted to make sure this also covers this case like I thought, and it is indeed still valid
-
Yes - but it cannot be submitted at 6970 after flash - it is only way to find a pattern that deals with card ID, thanks btw for raising the topic
-
The 6950 unlocked will count as 6950 for team cup as well. This is a very old rule, that came with 6800 NV iirc, seems to be still valid. Christian Ney works on making this more safe though, we will ask for picture of card and label most likely. The model of a card is determined by device ID, especially on amd this is very hard if we do not go after this because they give a xxxx about this and rebrand day and niight^^
-
Mr Scott is right, but this makes problems at 6970 category now because we have a lot of unlocked 6950s there at checking - plus we have 6970 at 6950 category which hints for people being very confused or cheating^^

Amien - Sempron 145 @ 3401.7MHz - 1690.56 pps HWBOT Prime
websmile replied to shar00750's topic in Result Discussions
I fixed it, and there is an option to select active cores in front of cooling used - it is also not put into 2x cpu category, it is one cpu still that is only shown with 2x active cores. This can happen, so no worries about this -
I made a request, what is most funny is that leader at 3dm06 uses a native 6970 when I look a device ID...

Time spy was already added, no matter which constellation we take, minumum requirement is dx9 P.S. On x4 845 I will have to think about if we break the pattern or not, the A series 15h 4 cpus are not released yet, not sure it makes sense if an athlonx4 is fitting in.
-
We are currently doing last tuning on round 3 Two questions, would you like 15h4, means x845 added? I ask this explicitly because I am not sure about availability worldwide and if you approve this, because of this I rather ask before making decision Point 2, we have the option to keep it at IGP, or I made second option to use R2xx and HD7xxx series as discrete card. Is it time for a change or shall we let it remain the way it was at round2? I need some feedback, of course final decision weill be done by staff, but I think we can only profitate from your opinion on this

removed from comp - this is a xeon^^
