Administrators websmile Posted August 26, 2016 Administrators Share Posted August 26, 2016 After season 1 and 2 of the Old school is best school series were a full success Hwbot plans to make a third season to once again give retro hardware lovers and tweakers the chance to compete at highest level. Because of this we search a competition manager for this task. After Antinomy and Lanbonden did tremendous jobs at designing the structure and stages of season 1 and 2, we now want you to do the job for season 3 These are the main tasks for old school is best school season 3 - come up with a theme (for artwork) - come up with competition structure - come up with competition stages It does not have to be all done by one person alone necessarily. If there is structure people agree on or competition manager determines, prominent old-school participants of first two seasons might plan different competition stages to enter their know how and experience for example. Feedback is welcome, volunteers of course as well - preferably we would want the Old school is best school participants to manage this in a way they enjoy the third season as much as possible
mr.paco
How much time is given to get the info together?
Administrators websmile Posted August 26, 2016 Author Administrators Share Posted August 26, 2016 I think it will be enough time, the old school 3 will for sure not start before october, maybe later - so you have at least 4-5 weeks to get all you need to organize it

Mr.Scott
Any other option (becides Matrox) for round 3 ? Nope. That's the difficulty factor for that round.
havli
Looks interesting. Round 1 is the hardest for me... as I don't have a single pci-e quadro
Administrators websmile Posted August 28, 2016 Author Administrators Share Posted August 28, 2016 I sent Frank a PM, we need to make a few adjustments like limit age of quadros, there are modern M5000s iirc for 10k we all do not want to see, but he did an awesome job so far

phobosq
Why don't we make round 4 even more interesting? In stage 1 there is 1, maybe 2 CPU models to be used, let's narrow it to Thunderbird or Palomino core to make it more difficult Cinebench will be dominated by dual Athlon MP (or modded XP), so maybe result can be divided by number of cores? And for 2001... maybe a clock limit of 2500?

Stage 3.......I kinda like the clock limit idea. Ask Frank. It's his show.

Administrators websmile Posted August 29, 2016 Author Administrators Share Posted August 29, 2016 Has been update.Let me know how it looks now. How about limiting the quadros by Core? I would propose G96 or older, it will be easier for me and participants plus you have dx10 for vantage from g80 upwards. http://hwbot.org/hardware/videocards#key=nvidia_quadro_series Generally, you did a very good and fast job, I am looking forward to round

I only submitted my idea, it will have to be up to WebSmiles to change anything he deems necessary.
Administrators websmile Posted August 29, 2016 Author Administrators Share Posted August 29, 2016 For me the stages and hardware choice are very good, apart from the simplification at quadros I see no reason to change your concept, Frank. If we make things too complicated, we scare new guys of, and this is why I like your clear choice of benchmarks and hardware.

Generally, you did a very good and fast job, I am looking forward to round 3 No problem; Will make Quadros G96 or older. I wanted to have it up as soon as I could to be able to get all questions/concerns/complaints out of the way so that once it starts there are no hick-ups/problems . At least that was my thinking I hope its well accepted by everyone. Thank you for the opportunity...
