Christian Ney Posted January 9, 2012 Author Posted January 9, 2012 (edited) Web Page Rendering: Test Setup: Gigabyte X58A-OC Intel I7 920 @ 4.7 GHz GeIL Evo Corsa 16GB 2400 MHz CL11 Asus Radeon HD 6990 OCZ Vertex 2 Before tweaking: 13-15 pages/s After tweaking: ~40 pages/s First Step: Use Windows Internet Explorer 9 (IE9) Download IE9: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/internet-explorer/downloads/ie-9/worldwide-languages (Yeah my browser is in french, but settings are located the same) Then go to settings => Set Zoom to 1000 % Disable all this shit: Set homepage to void/blank/null Go to Navigation History settings (2) do like on the pic bellow: First disable temporary files. Then move the temporary file folder into your USB drive/key/thumb (removable device) (Don't forget to remove your usb drive/thumb/key after you launched PCMark05, or remove it after tweaking is done, but never forget to do it or your score will be very low.) Disable everything here: (3) Next go to security, here are the settings I used, dunno if they are the best ones but it works just fine on my system so... : Now go to Advance Settings, here are the settings I use: Then lower IE9's windows: And enjoy 40 pages/s Edited January 10, 2012 by Christian Ney Quote
knopflerbruce Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 Great The mouse tweak for Transparent windows should be listed, too - just move the mouse while the test is running. Aero must be enabled. WMV Power Toy helps the WMV subtest - can't remember the exact settings, but I'm sure someone else can help us out:D Quote
Christian Ney Posted January 9, 2012 Author Posted January 9, 2012 (edited) Me and Gluvocio found that this work the best: You can download the reg key here: http://www.ocaholic.ch/xoops/html/modules/xcgal/albums/userpics/PCMark05file/videoencodingtweakPCMark05.rar Download PowerToy here: http://www.ocaholic.ch/xoops/html/modules/xcgal/albums/userpics/PCMark05file/PowerToy.exe Download the WMEncoder you need to run the benchmark here: http://www.ocaholic.ch/xoops/html/modules/xcgal/albums/userpics/PCMark05file/WMEncoder.exe Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 ;By Christian Ney and Gluvocio [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Scrunch\WMVideo] "Compression Optimization Type"=- "DenoiseOption"=dword:00000000 "Dquant Option"=dword:00000000 "Dquant Strength"=dword:00000000 "Force B Frame Delta QP"=dword:00000002 "Force Encoding Width"=dword:00000019 "Force Encoding Height"=dword:00000019 "Force LoopFilter"=dword:00000000 "Force Median"=dword:00000000 "Force NoiseEdgeRemoval"=dword:00000000 "Force NumThreads"=dword:00000002 "Force Overlap"=dword:00000000 "Force Video Scaling"=dword:00000000 "Lookahead"=dword:00000000 "Macroblock Mode Cost Method"=dword:00000001 "Motion Match Method"=dword:00000000 "Motion Search Level"=dword:00000000 "Motion Search Range"=dword:00000000 "Motion Vector Coding Method"=dword:00000000 "Motion Vector Cost Method"=dword:00000001 "NumBFrames"=- "Perceptual Option"=dword:00000000 "VideoType"=dword:00000000 "Lookahead Ratecontrol"=- "Encoder Thread Affinity"=- "Force Range Reduction"=- Edited January 10, 2012 by Christian Ney Quote

Christian Ney Posted January 9, 2012 Author Posted January 9, 2012 I saw some improvements changing mouse properties (speed and visibility). Thanks for sharing Chris!!! In which subtest ? 3D - Pixel Shader with ati card (vista-7)-elmor setlod @ +15 -D3D Overrider high-on-off 2D - Transparent Windows -aerotuner can help (win 7) -disable transparency on aero settings Yeah I have the same here but I did not remember in which subtest it helps exept I use lod17 and not 15 I will update the main post when I will be on my computer Quote
cnzdrn Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 If i use lod more than 15 + overrider = driver crash I use some settings on CCC but i have to check. Maybe I found a way to improve 2d graphics memory, I will try as soon as possible. Quote
Crew Sweet Posted January 9, 2012 Crew Posted January 9, 2012 (edited) In which subtest ? transparent windows, set mouse max sensitivity and show trace. move the mouse over the subtest like this: (windows spanish) with nvidia grafic card, set lod +4 or +6. and try Edited January 9, 2012 by Sweet Quote
Christian Ney Posted January 9, 2012 Author Posted January 9, 2012 Many thanks Alex, I did not know it, works on ati cards as well or only nvidia ? btw how you need to move the mouse ? like a madman or slowly like with a cat ? Quote
Crew Turrican Posted January 9, 2012 Crew Posted January 9, 2012 Many thanks Alex, I did not know it, works on ati cards as well or only nvidia ? btw how you need to move the mouse ? like a madman or slowly like with a cat ? imho this differs with every cpu generation a bit. too fast moving won't give a better score. sometimes less is better. siouxx Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 Many thanks Alex, I did not know it, works on ati cards as well or only nvidia ? btw how you need to move the mouse ? like a madman or slowly like with a cat ? I tested on nvidia only. The mouse movement I think it's trial and error Quote
Crew Sweet Posted January 9, 2012 Crew Posted January 9, 2012 (edited) Yes by now only nvidia and Karl are right differs with every cpu generation a bit This tweak was discovered by Stellaras (I think)., siouxx discovered "set mouse max sensitivity and show trace". sometimes like massman ( sorry madman) sometimes like a cat, depends on the gpu and the antiquity of the gpu, like Karl write before thats it's trial and error 580 GTX (Fast - 11139.554 / slow - around 9000/no move 7000- 8000)and 550Ti - 8800Gts fast too, i try this soon with 2x 4770 AMD and then comment. maybe with 7970, should be something amazing what goes up this subtest Edited January 9, 2012 by Sweet Quote
xXSebaSXx Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 The mouse tweak works on ATI cards as well. The results below are on my "fully bloated and underpowered" daily driver PC. I've been able to squeeze 12K+ out of that setup with the proper OS and OC. No mouse movement Slow mouse movement (Like a cat) Fast mouse movement (Like a mad-man) Quote
Crew Sweet Posted January 10, 2012 Crew Posted January 10, 2012 Yeahhh good job xXSebaSXx !!!:celebration: Ati too,...btw. Quote
ZMBKLN Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 LOD is also going to be dependant on your particular setup... I think I found when running my last batch of tests on PCM05 w/ GTX580 that 13 or so was the best to use. Also... And fairly obviously, don't be afraid to try negatives. Quote
Christian Ney Posted January 10, 2012 Author Posted January 10, 2012 (edited) General Tweaking: Windows Vista have the best ''Transparent Windows'' score. Windows 7 have the best overall score. Some say that Windows 8 is the fatest (some info about Windows 8 here: http://hwbot.org/forum/showthread.php?p=147820 ). Use an ATI/AMD Radeon HD 5850/5870 - 6950/6970 ATI CCC 11.7 is not bad so far Disable HyperThreading for 4core CPU and more. Note: PCMark05 doesn't scale with more than 4 Threads so you can use only 4 Core on 6-8 core CPU for higher overclocking. PCMark05 doesn't scale with more than 1 Graphics Card. Download the benchmark here: http://www.ocaholic.ch/xoops/html/modules/xcgal/albums/userpics/PCMark05file/PCMark05_v120_1901.exe Download latest SystemInfo here: http://www.3dmark.com/support/systeminfo-updates/ Edited January 11, 2012 by Christian Ney Quote

All i did was to start pcmark05 and do the following : 1st) At first you have the win7 aero theme. 2nd ) Change theme to high contrast black 3rd ) Change again to win7 aero theme (or "characters" theme as it works better for me) . 4th) Test the transparent subtest If you don't get it with the first , try it again. I managed to get it working on 3 difference PC's . Feel free to try to combine both -------------------------------------------------------------- For this subtest (Transparent Windows) - Operating System from best to worst 1- Vista x64 (improve with nlite) - the best 2- Windows 7 3- Windows 8 4- Windows XP - worst Some also use this tool: AeroTuner to tune/tweak Aero, you can find the software here: http://www.ocaholic.ch/xoops/html/modules/xcgal/albums/userpics/PCMark05file/aerotuner.rar Turn On Aero (1): Go to colour settings (2) and disable ''Transparency'' Move other settings to 0 can also help. Then Save your PCMark Theme (2) Mouse Speed and Sensitivity explained by Sweet: Set mouse max sensitivity and show trace.move the mouse over the subtest like this: (windows spanish) Don't forget to move the mouse when the ''2D - Transparent Windows'' subtest is running, Movement Speed Tested by xXSebaSXx: The mouse tweak works on ATI cards as well.
