  1. Lol, this times it seems it doesn't matter. As long as you don't get a ddr2 model or something and there's enough vram for the bench (all models should have enough) it should just be about mods (I'm sure there's an IC that's best but I don't know what it is)
  2. No longer true now that avx2 is supported, most cpus haswell and newer it impacts. As for gpu tests it shouldn't matter but
  3. There are still many timings that are hidden on both intel and AMD, so perhaps you may still be able to pick up a little extra effi by prioritizing bclk over multi
  4. I think we should take cooling out of the equation plain and simple, should just be rookie (first 6 months) and "enthusiast" (>6 months). Verifying cooling is too hard to fake, and given the recent push to make all benches cheat proof with wrappers instead of just a screenshot I think separating leagues by cooling and verifying with a rig pic is backwards thinking.
  5. I'd like to move towards that. It must be valid on 3dm site (only excused failure to validate being unapproved drivers), I'd like to see this be more about the hard mods and less about driver mods Speaking of tweaks, nobody knows something super easy like monitor pull in 3dm03 that would make one of these benches a shitshow right?
  6. Unless peoplre throw a big fuss in the next month I think we're going to go with all cedar cores and the top 4 benches.
  7. Since it's exclusively the graphics tests core count doesn't matter for the selected tests.
  8. It doesn't work on this chip, otherwise we 100% would
  9. There's a pretty siginifcant difference in the speed of ddr4 x99 vs x79 ddr3 tbh with ddr4 taking the advantage by a noticeable margin. In general x99 is much more a current gen intel cpu than x79 or z97. Leeg has given an inch with older xeons and now everyone is asking for a mile.
  10. Must have a full ATX sized package for that many pins
  11. We're just going to say Cedar core unless it actively pisses off a lot of people. We still have a month to switch if we really must.
  12. Okay so looks like card will be all Cedar core's, benches will be Unigine Heaven basic, and the graphics subscores of 3dmark11 performance, 3dm06, and skydiver. Cpu will be limited to 5 ghz. Comp will start April 1st. System pic required, please include pictures of all mods. Any other rules we should add?
  13. Poll was set to close at a specific time, although in light of how it ended I think we should just use the top 4, I don't see that having a particularly negative effect on the comp.
  14. They don't win every stage, for example pretty sure that haswell will still kick x79's ass in x265 even with a core disadvantage, also ivy is more likely to outclock haswell if anything.
  15. Definitely excited for this one, hopefully we have more r/oc representation this time
  16. hehe, finally people getting into glorious intel gma. I need to stop being lazy and start benching, lol. Also if anyone wants a tip, the multi for the gma is a divider that is auto set according to "stock" fsb. So if you put a 1066 or a "1066" chip in you will get a higher multiplier for the GMA. May mean better performance at lower FSB, although obviously need good mem too as it scales decent with that as well. Now I just need to put some mods on my board that's known good to 520+ fsb and see where I can score.
  17. Yes, that was the intent of how the rule was supposed to work. Now as to if this is a matter worth reporting or if a rookie is just being petty because they can't understand how a community works...
  18. It should only be on ln2 because of the thermal expansion, at least for the way that most people talk of where it works to the end of session then doesn't ever post after that session. But it's also possible to just kill it during the bench on any cooling as it is a relatively high power draw application and can't handle the same voltages as some other benches.
  19. Looks like almost all details of the comp have been ironed out. How soon should we start? Do you guys want to target a start date of March 1 or will that be too soon? Perhaps start on April 1 so that people have time to start sourcing cards and modding supplies? We can also start in the middle of March if we don't want to wait a whole month, but seems cleaner for the comp to start on the first of a month and run for a month.
  20. Alright guys, gonna leave the poll up for another day so speak now or forever hold your peace. So far looks like top 3 benches are 3dm11 perf, unigine heaen, and 3dm06 by a narrow margin. So if you'd rather bench skydiver than 3dm06 make sure to vote now. The vote for allowing rebrands is relatively close with allowing them in the lead
  21. No reason not to tbh, it's not even the best platform for all stages
  22. Well I know that all of the 3dmarks have a cpu portion, but I think if we stick to just graphics subscore that should help. As for Heaven, based on cheapaz 2018 we should be able to be reasonably sure that heaven will be fine since it definitely scaled a ton with gpu on the gt 1030. Also I think people are grossly underestimating how incredibly slow the HD 5450, it's significantly slower than modern IGPs, probably even the past few gens tbh.
