The only CPU losing which I still regret to this day is this 3000+ Venice: CPU-Z Validator 3.1 Had to learn the hard way that DFI NF4 boards don't reset the Vcore to defaults once you swap the CPU. The only CPU(s) I lost during an actual benchsession were Q3FE / 3005F Gulftowns, but those were disposable back in the day, so no real regrets.

Why not have, say, 5 categories? 0-31 ROPs: GTX750Ti (3363 on LN2), GTX760-192bit (2695 on air), R7-360 (4387 on air), RX460. 32-63 ROPs: GTX780Ti (8950 on LN2), GTX1060 (7151 on stock), RX480 (7698 on LN2). 64-95 ROPs: GTX980 (10459 on LN2), GTX1080 (13161 on LN2), FuryX (10556 on LN2), 2xRX480 (11863 on air). 96-128 ROPs: 2xGTX780Ti (15011 on LN2), 2xGTX980 (17198 on LN2), GTX980Ti (14432 on LN2), TitanXP (16604 on LN2), 2xFuryX (18184 on LN2) 129+ ROPs: 3/4-way stuff I've put the top FSE score in brackets behind each card. Except for GTX780Ti monstering the 32-63 ROP rank (then again, how many of these cards were binned?), everything seems rather logical/comparable, doesn't it?
  4. Thing is, my reject might still be better than your "best out of 100". So much for the actual best CPU... In fact, that's what you get with memory. You can go out and buy 10, 100, 1000, 10000, however many retail kits as you like, but chances are that whatever you're going to find is still going to be worse than the rejects you get/buy through the back door since memory manufacturers actually test each stick at the factory and can easily put the best ones aside. As for CPUs, I imagine that Intel are simply too big (or have internal policies) to care about OC-grading of their high-end CPUs. So, in a way, CPU binning is a lot more fair (which is why I personally abandoned memory binning last year).
  5. Doesn't Titan XP have 96 ROPs versus 64 for GTX1080? And there's nothing wrong in placing 1070 and 1080 in the same category, we've been doing this with 2500K/3570K/46x0K/6600K for a while now. With some smart per-ROP partitioning (.., 30-50, 50-80, ..) the RX480 and GTX1060 will end up in the same category making AMD relevant again.
  6. Personally, I don't think that there's anything wrong with buying binned hardware. Not everyone, especially married people haha, may have the time and money to invest in their own binning. Even being a somewhat avid binner myself, I sometimes had to resort to buying binned hardware from other people just because my personal achievements were too frustrating. I guess most people have done the same at some point. As for the expectations, you have to be pretty naive to assume that a specialised CPU binner or a RAM/VGA manufacturer would be willing to deliberately part with their best samples. After all, the main purpose of binning is finding the best clocking components and using them for own interests, be it just hwbot scores or manufacturer marketing.

  8. We could also go by the number of TMUs or ROPs as they don't grow as much in quantity as shaders. This would actually be a very interesting idea since it would, say, allow people with two mid-end cards compete in the same category with one high-end card in the same way as you can compete with dual quadcores against one octacore.

Before you ask, we are not holding back to any better CPUs which we would sell privately, these were among the best CPUs we were able to find on our own. All these CPUs are delidded with (lots of) Thermal Grizzly between core and loose IHS. My preferred method payment of payment is IBAN banktransfer but PayPal is also possible if buyer is to take care of the transaction fees. All prices above include insured worldwide shipping with DHL.

  13. Just to add: Caseking prime numbers are usually under-advertised. I had a CPU advertised for 4500/1.24, 4700/1.38 by Caseking and it did 4500/1.20, 4700/1.30 on my end (ASUS M8I).
