  1. That's true, is just that some people don't bother to select their type of cooling in the dropdown menu and proceed with submitting with default option, which is "stock".
  2. There are many things changing which in the BIOS causes a reboot powerdown on X48 - strap, memory divider, any of the memory timings and even some FSB values (there is a powerdown between 499 set and 500 set, if I remember correctly). If you set 1.50+ VTT and then start fiddling with the memory settings, you'll have lots of such powerdowns and will wreck your CPU quite fast. A better thing to do is figuring out those settings at low VTT (so that powerdowns are not as damaging) and then gradually raising VTT.
  3. E8x00 Q83xB and Q84xB batches are no bad MHz/volt clockers - almost as good as Q82x stuff and way better than 2009+ made stuff. Very few of them have ever seen cold due to E8600 craze that was going on over the time, so it's hard to say if getting another chip will guarantee improvement, 5.8GHz is already impressive for a single stage. When running high VTT it's best to avoid powerdowns. As long as you do that and gradually increase/decrease it then you can get away with running 1.6+ for extended periods of time.
  4. Now that even Massman has bought it, I think I know one of the obligatory platforms for the upcoming team cup
  5. Not bad, at ~7.2GHz it might go under 9s in 1M Does it really need 1.58V for 2.7GHz?

To troll you a bit more, ES sales are not allowed
  7. Sold and shipped. Thread can be closed and moved.
  8. Never tested on cold. Pending.
  9. There is no scheme to predict chips on OCZ that I know of. On 2000C9 Blades it might be dependant on the manufacturing date: - Hazzan reported Micron D9KPT back in April 2009; - this kit is made in May 2009 (..0905.. in SN), websmile's ex kit was made in June 2009 (..0906.. in SN) and had BBSE too; - a set made in July 2010 was recently sold on German ebay and by the looks of it, it had 2Gbit chips, probably BCSE.
  10. The article has word "unreleased" all over it and I, personally, have never ever seen this kit in the wild or on the shelf in US, EU or Asia. If G.Skill accept the sub it's their call. Won't be the first or last competition with definition of "retail" messed up. Anything on the lucky draw?
  11. Very unexpected batch. When people binned these chips in mass back in the day, three letter batches were considered the worst. That's the first one I ever see above 3.4GHz.
  12. Nothing against 8-Pack, but if G.Skill claim that this is a retail kit, can we see any official mention of this model or link to any webshop where it was available at or before the start of competition?
  13. removed from competition as 2666C10 RipjawsZ that he used are not a retail product
  14. can also sell two modules from previous post separately for 55 Euros including worldwide shipping
  15. A kit that has never been announced, released or sold does not count as retail hardware.
