  1. Not tried the latest versions yet, so that's good to know. Here's hoping that the affected versions don't turn out to be the most efficient for certain cards... it's a pain having to hook up wireless or running long cables to the switch Thanks!
  2. I see that some GPU hardware points have increased beyond 50 for gold Have final decisions been taken on how points are assigned?
  3. Did anyone figure out a way to get nVidia Control Panel back if they were installing nV drivers without a network connection? Thankyou!
  4. ...which brings us pretty close to the Titan + e-Power situation.......
  5. So.... more points to make people feel better about the cost of competition? Points: The cause of... and solution to, all of our problems
  6. If I suggested that the problem was: 1/Too many benchmarks getting points 2/ Heavy points going to new benchmarks to get people interested Would I have a fair % of it covered? Now, obviously... the carrot cannot be taken away, that would be unfair.... so more points have to appear on "other sides" to balance things out?
  7. If 3D is split further by CPU cores, then what's the point of the 5960X (and whatever is next?) Would the top-end CPUs have extra points attached to compensate? ie... nothing changes, but the conditions for "no change" are different. If a bencher can get the same number of points from a £50 CPU as an £800 CPU, then...... (I do like things that make benching cheaper for participants, but I know that the top-end must have its place) Maybe we are all over-thinking this. I can't even remember what the thread is for. What EXACT problem/ problems are we/HWB trying to fix at the moment?
  8. I think that defending the scaling of a 3D benchmark with CPU is a short-term thing. None of the 3DMark benchmarks were (as far as I remember) showing any problems in the first few years after release. The problem develops with time- GPU performance is being developed much faster than CPU performance. FS, FS-E, FS-U are fine *today* but in 5 years time, they quite possibly won't be. and... let's be honest... it's only really a problem when it affects single card. If there were BIG points available to 4-way and the benchmark only scaled with GPU power, there would be complaints about sponsors and Titan (or whatever comes next at that price point)
  9. Ummmm... have you phrased this badly? Can the server handle the number of points that Knop will now have? :D I guess users just need to re-evaulate what "nothing" is. Makes me think of The Depression and needing a wheelbarrow of cash to buy bread: https://keripeardon.wordpress.com/2013/06/01/wheelbarrows-of-money-and-the-weimar-republic/ I know, my account is without points, all I see at the moment are rankings. I guess "it doesn't matter" how many points XYZ is "worth" because the value is in the total amount Vs "someone else's" total amount. I'm cynical of "LOOK! BIG NUMBERS!" All that matters is the context
  10. Hello I really like the idea of smoothing out the point differences as scores creep towards #1. I've always felt that the points difference was FAR disproportionate to the typical score difference at that level....especially when it's usually a backup rivalry. I know i've suggested this before...how about a score "bump" as someone enters top 50, top 25, top 10, top 5? Those are "golden rankings" that everyone understands, so pushing to enter the next "zone" gets a proper points motivation. The rest of the ideas..... no comment for now

    Hello all

I.... have been treading on toes recently. I *have* been posting critical comments, but i've not been angry when i've been typing, i've never been more relaxed in my life, so I need to figure out how i'm getting it wrong. Some of the points i've wanted to make/things i've wanted to say have been lost due to poor wording on my part or the wrong application of my sarcasm. I am sorry for offense caused by poor wording, but not for challenging ideas. I'm gonna take a month away from here, maybe longer. Sorry again. K
  12. Ebay UK has some from a German seller. It ain't cheap! More importantly: thankyou Alex for doing this testing and posting it up
  13. This! Smallest TIM tube available should be 22g My preferred price wasn't mentioned. If 22g of Ceramique II is £5.75 (Ebay) then 44g is ~£11 or $17. 3x the price better be pretty damned special and I bet that most of the price of a super paste is hype, not science.
  14. So, for example.... a rule about acting in the best interests of the community, being clear and transparent in your work... would the icon be a phallus with a diagonal line through it?
  15. '210 and '610 won't be affected by CPU in Vantage. Make it GPU score only if there's some paranoia? FS.... 210 and 610 won't be affected by CPU either EDIT: correction. Derp. GT720 GDDR3: in Vantage, moving from 40K CPU to 80K adds less than 300 points. FS: not sure. Sod all, is the short answer
  16. I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that the NVS300 is not gonna be CPU bottlenecked unless the CPU requirement is AMD K8 or something
  17. http://offer.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBids&item=321839943931&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2565 Spot the money laundering?

Do NOT tune the vDroop trimmer to 0 ohms, you will quite possibly kill the board. A little vDroop is healthy, do not try to get 0, that will take you closer to 0 ohms. If you got a gain, the solder is fine.
  19. I don't think it's part of the problem, but why those drivers in particular? The power draw is affected by MHz, so testing power-states at lower MHz doesn't *really* tell you anything. Is the card OCP modded? Are you using Thermspy? I have tested a few Fermi-5 cards that "lost interest" around 1050-1075MHz, might just be the warm limit of the core.... Have you tried backing off the GDDR MHz and/or reducing vGDDR? (Memory controller affects total core current draw, so it can help build up a better picture of where the problem is coming from) I can't remember... can Nibitor etc adjust idle clocks? If you can adjust the idle state to something much higher, it makes the jump easier for the card to handle.
  20. I hope he asked for your autographs! (on a more serious note.... excellent job on doing the necessary in front of a serious crowd.)
  21. What's not working right?
  22. That laptop has more power than my daily PC! CRAZY spec!! (welcome to HWB)
