In the past 4 years, the 'prize' included: travel expenses + hotel + lunch/dinner arrangements. So, technically, you could have a free trip. But if you want to go out or visit another place in Taipei that's on your own expense of course. IIRC, Ivy Bridge was actually supposed to launch in the beginning of April. Intel postponed it, though, so ... you really should be blaming Intel for this one

April 3rd. Earlier this evening, I drove to Leeghoofd's place to test a couple of BBSE sticks. They couldn't do C6-9-6 on the board I had, so had to verify and test on a different platform. Arriving in Leeghoofd's insanely large mansion, greeting his wife and dozen mistresses, replying "no thanks, I'm the driver" when the butler offered me a glass of champagne and congratulating Leeghoofd on the latest yacht he bought (it really is a beauty), I came across this nice set of GSkill RipjawsZ F3-19200CL9Q-16GBZMD ... ... unopened! I guess you probably all know it, but outside of HWBOT, I actually am a first class bad-ass, a true gangster of the worst kind, a stock broker with no mercy. So, as no one was paying attention to this unopened and untouched box of magic, I could not resist kindly asking Leeghoofd if I could take them home with me to test out. Of course, he first said 'no', but after I threatened with potentially very loud crying, holding my breath until I would die and the longest hunger strike in human history, I was given a candy bar as well as the permission to take them home with me. Info on IMC temperature and memory overclocking Seems like we need to push the temperature far into the positives to get nice memory frequencies on Sandy Bridge-E. For fun, I tested the maximum frequency with LN2 and ended up with Pi-32M stable at DDR3-2666 at 70°C ... D. With Gigabyte 990FXA-UD7 (AMD) - DDR3-2608 (1.77V) C10-12-12-34 SuperPI 32M: click - DDR3-2608 (1.77V) C10-12-12-34 Aida64: click - DDR3-2710 (1.77V) C10-12-12-30 CPU-Z Validation: click Conclusion This kit actually surprised me a bit. I tested some DDR3-2400 rated kits in the past and usually overclocking didn't go too well. This one seems to be capable of more than what I reached so far as the IMC of this Sandy Bridge-E CPU is not able to surpass DDR3-2640 (which is already quite nice). I'm looking forward to test this kit on Ivy Bridge platform in the next couple of weeks. Stay tuned! (ps: also check other people's test reports and reviews to have an even better view on the capabilities of this kit) The award! 63x . There's no maximum MP limitation for this competition. SuperPI only has 15% weight, so there's more weight on the GPU.

Alright, let's kick off this year's MSI Master Overclocking Arena! The official PR will be released at the end of this week, but obviously we'll leak the info a little early. Here's what the PR says, scroll down for more practical info: The Practical Stuff - Online Qualifiers Alright, so there will be 3 online qualifiers: Americas, EMEA and APAC. They will be running in different time frames and are also a little different in terms of qualification for the Grand Final later this year. Americas: 13/04 - 10/05, best of 3 continue EMEA: 18/05 - 14/06, best of 5 continue APAC: 15/06 - 19/07, best of 4 continue Fyi, there are no limitations on the amount of teams that can qualify per country. Ie, if the best 3 teams from the Americas qualifier are all from Bolivia, then 3 Bolivian teams will be in the MOA 2012 final. The Practical Stuff - Benchmark and hardware limitations As usual, the qualifiers have a couple of benchmarks and hardware limitations. The benchmarks each have a different weight in the calculation (weight applied to point algorithm). 3DMark11: 60 - 43,2 - 38,4 - 36 - 33,6 - 31,2 - 28,8 - 26,4 - 24 - 21,6 - 19,2 - 16,8 - 14,4 - 12 - 9,6 - 7,2 - 4,8 - 2,4 - 0 - 0 - ... 3DMark03: 25 - 18 - 16 - 15 - 14 - 13 - 12 - 11 - 10 - 9 - 8 - 7 - 6 - 5 - 4 - 3 - 2 - 1 - 0 - 0 - ... As for the hardware limitations: single CPU videocard single GPU videocard only MSI mainboards only MSI graphics cards no ES samples allowed, only retail hardware used must be released before the start of the competition (note: commercial NDA, not media NDA!) the usage of Virtu MVP is not allowed Since Ivy Bridge will launch at the end of April (29th according to the rumours), they are not eligible for the Americas qualifier. For the EMEA and APAC qualifiers, they will be allowed. The Practical Stuff - Get Lost You Sandbagger! We all know how online competitions usually work, so for the MOA 2012 we will implement an elemination cut to force those annoying sandbaggers to play their cards a little earlier in the game. The elimination will take place after 75% of the competition (we'll provide exact date, time, timezone) and will only allow the 15 best overall ranked to continue submitting. If you don't make the top-15 cut, you will no longer be allowed to submit in the rest of the competition. Note that the scores of the eliminated participants are still valid for the competition. So, if someone only submits the highest SuperPI-32M score and gets eliminated, you'll still have to beat that score to get the 15 points. That's all for now, more info to follow. Z77 is up for sale already, I think. Not Ivy, though. Well ... you can find them already even though it's not allowed to sell them yet.
