Is it ok & legal to rename the aquamark.exe in Vista + W7 to get a non-crap score?

 

There was some technicality debate over its legality wasn't there?

 

I'm aware a LOT of scores have been submitted using it....

Kenny that is a good question, and I have no idea how it would be policed if it is deemed not to be acceptable.

If it wasn't acceptable, it's easy to spot W7/Vista without this tweak is a writeoff

As for me it's not a cheat although I still haven't tried AM3 in Vista/7even. Does such renaming influence the visual side of benchmark or timers? I guess it doesn't - so it is legal tweak.

Does this do something other than just setting affinity? I grabbed 341K with my 470 at 940/1100 and W3520 at 4.65 by setting priority to realtime and affinity to all cores.

Hm, XP didn't give me to change Aquamark's priority - "access denied" that's what taskmanager was talking about.

This tweak is about application-specific driver optimizations like it was with 3DMark 2001 and all the rest of em, right?

 

Does the score change only on NV or cards of both manufacturers?

As far as I see it it is illegal because you are messing with the benchmark which is not allowed.

You're not messing with the benchmark - only the driver's optimizations

"benchmarks must always be launched using the shortcuts found in the installation directory."

 

This tweak requires renaming the .exe, which *could* be interpreted as a breach of this rule, it also helps open up the browser tweak in PCMark05, which is why i'm asking for clarification

 

That quote was about not launching the benchmark using third-party software this is what this stuff is about.

 

Even things that are not described in the rules can be interpreted as breach of the rules so I don't see a reason to worry about this

It's not altering the benchmark settings - no. Then it's OK according to the rules. If it's forbidden - update the rules. Unless it's that simple.

Replacing it and yes, this is not allowed, it's clearly described in the rules.

Does this do anything different than setting priority and affinity?

all it does is set affinity test for yourself run it with renamed .exe then just run it with all cores set

you will see

renaming is just quicker

Setting AquaMark 3's priority in Windows XP for noobs, page 1:

 

Open a CMD window

Type CD C:\Program Files\AquaMark3folderpath [ press enter ]

type aquamark.exe /realtime

 

And you're a happy noob.

 

you can add /affinity XX to set the affinity as well.

 

wheres xx you need to enter the appropriate value depending on which cores you want AquaMark3 to use.
