Gunslinger Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 Anyone else having BSOD issues trying to Vista up and running with Z77 ? I'm using a retail image, of which I've tried several. Usually make it to installing Video drivers and then it goes to hell quickly. Prior to that, routine stuff "stops responding" installers fail ect; Just seems very unstable from the start. Quote
sin0822 Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 yea i heard and saw a lot of issues with vista and Z77, atm the thought was because the vista was slimmed down, but maybe it is just the OS. Quote

Blue Storm Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 MSI Z77 MPower + Windows Vista without problem also with several different graphics drivers Quote
Gunslinger Posted November 27, 2012 Author Posted November 27, 2012 It has to be possible, if you look at a the top scores for multi GPU they are all done in Vista. 2x Vista http://hwbot.org/submission/2326131_sf3d_3dmark05_2x_radeon_hd_7970_68040_marks http://hwbot.org/submission/2326236_team.au_3dmark05_2x_radeon_hd_7970_67265_marks http://hwbot.org/submission/2310880_kingpin_3dmark05_2x_geforce_gtx_580_65811_marks 4x Vista http://hwbot.org/submission/2328572_oclab.ru_3dmark05_2x_radeon_hd_5970_69427_marks http://hwbot.org/submission/2325751_extreme_3dmark05_2x_radeon_hd_5970_67842_marks http://hwbot.org/submission/2316993_viss_3dmark05_4x_radeon_hd_4870x2_66510_marks Quote
Massman Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 Hm, imho that looks like an incorrect BIOS setting prior to OS install. - IDE or AHCI ? - CSM support enabled ? - XHCI/EHCI Hand-off enabled ? Quote
Gunslinger Posted November 27, 2012 Author Posted November 27, 2012 AHCI The rest at auto or whatever the setting is at "optimised defaults" I got it to work this morning, I had been using a TechNet OS image that included SP1, I tried the original MS retail disk this morning and it worked Both Z77 OC Formula and Asus MVE Quote
l0ud_sil3nc3 Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 (edited) works fine with the MVF Edited November 28, 2012 by l0ud_sil3nc3 Quote
Crew Olesius Posted November 28, 2012 Crew Posted November 28, 2012 change your mobo maybe you can RMA it, i had some issue too so have changed the mobo and anything is ok Quote
Gunslinger Posted November 29, 2012 Author Posted November 29, 2012 It's working, but is scoring 10,000 points lower in '05 than XP is. I'm about ready to throw in the towel on it. Quote
SF3D Posted November 30, 2012 Posted November 30, 2012 I had no issues with Vista installation, but I used IDE mode. That's only difference I could imagine. Performance should be better without any adjustments in 3DM05, so it sounds a bit weird to get 10K lower. I hope there is some easy fix for that, cause I hate when things like that happen Quote

Gunslinger Posted December 10, 2012 Author Posted December 10, 2012 Attempting IDE mode today, but not having much luck. MVE and retail Vista. BSOD at the completing installation step every time Quote
topdog Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 Same thing happens to me with a UD5H and vista, installation works fine but will not boot after it finishes Quote
K404 Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 I have the same problem with the UD3H and Tiny 7, but not with a full install Quote
sofos1990 Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 I just installed Vista on the MVE without any problem at all Quote
Gunslinger Posted December 10, 2012 Author Posted December 10, 2012 Me 2, but I had to disable EVERYTHING to get it to go. First thing I installed after was CAT 9.12 Quote
Massman Posted December 11, 2012 Posted December 11, 2012 Have you tried slipstreaming all the drivers into your Vista install? Quote
Gunslinger Posted December 11, 2012 Author Posted December 11, 2012 Have you tried slipstreaming all the drivers into your Vista install? I've got it working right for AMD GPU's now, Nvidia is another matter though. Quote

Massman Posted December 11, 2012 Posted December 11, 2012 It almost sounds like the stock operating system is just installing a driver that is incompatible with the Z77 platform. Maybe an outdated system driver or so. Quote
Crew pro Posted December 17, 2012 Crew Posted December 17, 2012 my light OSes i used to use in the past dont install properly, gives me some error that it cant configure with hardware but with a full OS no drama... i guess im yanking something out of the OS it needs but you are seeing this on full OS? Yes full OS from retail disk no SP's, full OS w/SP's from my TechNet account also. If I try to use an image with SP's it goes into a BSOD loop after the last install restart. AMD is scoring correctly in my air testing, Nvidia is scoring terrible. 3DM05 3770K at 5GHz + 2x 4870X2's = 50,000 3770K at 5GHz + 3x GTX 580's = 22,000 Same scenario for 2x Asrock Z77 OC Formula, 2x RVE, RVG, EVGA Z77 FTW Quote
