For sure, the issue I had was the CPU has a cold bug relating to the IO die (I think), so the higher the mem speed the worse the cold bug was, dropping to 7200MHz gave me another 30c to play with over 7800MHz so for this particular bench that was just about faster with the slower mem. Just need a sample with a better IO die :)

I think it's something to do with the Crosshair IV, I couldn't overcome the NB issues on that board, had to move to Gigabyte to maximise my chips.

If you have any 7000 series chips lying around it might be interesting to see if there are similar gains to be had with that platform too, i.e. to rule out whether this is just a software efficiency thing or if it really is a platform issue on windows.
