General hardware discussion

  1. Lenovo ThinkPad series is the most well known in their NoteBook product line. Continue IBM prime design tradition, the X series NoteBook is still very popular for commercial users. Especially the previous X201 with CULV version, the price drops a lot. Even the budget concerned user also can have the good commercial grade quality product. The parity ThinkPad is more competitive. Besides the product C/P is enhanced, it also attracts the users sight. I still remember the year before, Intel NoteBook CPU almost are Core 2 Duo. The main models are TX00 and PX00 series. Also CULV CPU is focus on low clock and power consumption. After Q1 2010, you can see many br…

Antec 1200W non OC is the highest model available in my country. I want to buy it to replace the Corsair HX1000 for Gulftown benchmark (LN2, for sure). Does the bigest difference between us is Fan Control Knob/+12V Voltage Control Knob, not the clock of 980X? and any PSU recommend for 980X? Here is my best result with Corsair HX1000. sorry for broken English. Thanks.

I 'm upgrading to an 1366 chipset, i7-930 Bloomfield and an ASUS P6X58D Premium LGA 1366 with SLI and I wonder if I should hunt down another gtx 285 or just sell mine and replace it with a 5850. Any ideas. GTX 285's are hard to find and expensive. Are there any card close to a GTX 285 that will work with a 285 in SLI? I am not a big gamer(love BF Bad Comp. but not so good at it) so FPS isn't a big deal. I do use other 3d rendering apps thogh.

  14. In the remembrance, the Core 2 Duo double-core processor was just announced by Intel at the Grand-Hotel in July 2006. After around a half-year later, Intel started Quad-Core era, which was following Core 2 Due structure to make Core 2 Quad CPU. After that, Intel launched Core i7 to enhance its performance with L3, HT and triple- channel functions in November 2008, even if Core i7 was based on Quad-core and simulated with Octa-core (eight-core) in use, but the market was still look forward to hearing from real Hexa-Core (six-core) CPU. After all, the real Hexa-Core CPU was released by Intel in March 16, 2010, meaning the generation was completed replaced b…

I used XP32 clean, with and without real time QPI 3200, 3800, 4266 and 4800 ... but times have not improved ... If anyone has an idea thanks in advance

Hello. First post here in this forum. I'm using the hwbot to compare processor performances, but some of the results make me confused, so here comes the question: those results are from the CPUs at stock/default parameters (fsb, clock, etc.) or when overclocked/tweaked/whatever? Thank you!

  20. Hey fellows, I know quite a few results have been posted lately with UD9, so I am not going to discover anything extraordinary with my 5,6GHz i980X "champ". However, even if some results have been shown, and some forum sneak peaks have been done, I though that a more "official" preview would not hurt anybody. So I did a nice, clean preview on our website. You might be asking what the heck is so interesting about that. Yeah...I forgot to mention...I did a small "4 x GTX 480 on Gigabyte UD9" preview on our website. Now it sounds more interesting, doesn't it? :yepp: Anyway, the 4WAY SLI is not the main focus here, I am preparing a massive 1,2,3,4 GTX 480 vs 1,2,3,4 H…

  22. In the past as far as built-in GPU platforms were concerned, Intel usually used “G Series” to name its products. G45 or G41 as Intel’s main chipset were commonly seen in the market in the last generation. At the beginning of 2010, Intel released new “All in one PC” structure, and firstly introduced the new technology that GPU was directly built in the CPU. Moreover, Intel improved its CPU to 32nm process, and also released a series of CPUs that support the platform. At present, there are 6 CPUs in the market: low-level Pentium G6950; mid-level Core i3 530/540; and high-level Core i5 650/660/661/670. As to MB chipset, Intel released H55/H57 to support new CPU d…

First benching - AMD 6 core @ 6700 Mhz Thats my first Thuban benching The CPU haves a very nice performance and I could do the tests with only 1.7 V (BIOS); to CPUZ (from 6630 mhz to higger) was necessary to greatly increase the voltage to try a suicidal CPUZ screen. I know I could have achieved better results with a better operating system (my XP installation CD was defective and gave blue screen throughout the installation and Vista Lite corrupted in the first few minutes benching, then I turned to format my wife's Vista Home Premium without any Tweak at -18X C. The system was already in sub zero and LN2 in Brazil is very expensive then I could not wast…

I just finished and published the review of the newest mainstream Dual-Core processor from Intel, the Core i3 540. Some quotes from the review: To read the full review, just click here! The Extreme Overclocking page should be filled with contents this weekend, I'm getting ready to test the i3 540 and an i5 670 on LN2 ( might have a live stream as well )

  25. New storage device, I believe most people will think of SSD first. SSD full name is Solid-State Drive. SSD is very popular in the past 2 years. It also breaks the performance barrier for NoteBook. Most SSD key features are light, power saving, higher performance and secure data protection. However, SSD price is much higher and less capacity than traditional HDD. I still remember that before 1H 2009, SSD focused on performance and capacity improvement. But the price was not big change. Mainstream 64GB SSD price was around 200USD. Also, the MLC performance was reading at 200~220 MB/s and writing at 150~180 MB/s. Recently, I saw some non-SAMSUNG SSD controller can…
