  1. Perhaps binning, or I'm very unlucky as always. Every time I decide to try a new cpu, I end up with a chip in the 51x - 53x range . Awesome result and cpu, mate! Looking forward to see some 3D results
  2. Did better with modified original bios after all. This card is very tricky. http://hwbot.org/submission/2244791_i.nfrar.ed_3dmark2001_se_geforce_fx_5900_xt_35641_marks Should work on the other benchmarks now.
  3. I have Gainward FX5900XT. Would it be a problem if I flash it with FX5950U bios and submit scores under FX5900XT? I don't want to lose my time benching with the modded bios, while all scores will be invalid after that. I'd assume it's ok, since it's a standard procedure that everyone could have done back in the days the FX series were launched. As long as I provide a photo of the sticker and the whole card/system?
  4. Maybe Deneb-based X2 5200 could do the trick as well, or even the OEM Athlons like 150u/160u/170u, but it would be tricky with those low multipliers. You'd need a very good board HT-Ref wise and the right settings.
  5. With the difference that we are not professionals. So, where's the problem then? If he's so good that noone could beat him, it would be the same if he had the time to bench in the beginning and uploaded the score, or benched at the end of the week. But in the second case, the rules would artificially put him on 2nd place. Don't get me wrong, I still want some different competition rules that would make it more interesting.
  6. And what if I'm busy during the week, because of my job and bench only in the weekend, producing the score at the end of Sunday. Does it mean I'm a sandbagger? Not that I'm a factor in the OC competitions, but almost all of my scores for competitions are done this way. Always at the very last hours, due to lack of free time. Others are done in the beginning of the comp and then I had no time to improve. Since it's all about fun (no?), I'm not sure it's good to give advantage to people with a lot of free time.
  7. This helps with air cooling. Basically the cold air screams your name...
  8. So, techically engine would allow you to submit a result with unlocked processor into the X2 category, because it only understands it as a dual-core processor. It counts the original model cores, not the actual. Since that's a 3D benchmark the usual hwbot rankings don't care about processor used, gotcha! This makes it dificult (impossible?) to set the rules for the competition, so the engine would accept X2 555 @ X4 into the X4 category. So, what if I unlock the CPU and submit it as X4 955 into the X4 stage? Just curios about this. It actually doesn't give me any advantage to original X4 955.
  9. I kinda understand the reason behind unlocking cores being disallowed. Imho, it's not necessary. Unlocking is only possible with AMD cpus. Valid cases are: X1 -> X2 X2 -> X3/X4 X3 -> X4 X4 -> X6, however Zosma based X4 are very rare So, only one practical case is X2-> X3. X1 and X3 are AMD territory, others are dominated by Intel. So, let's say I'm an ordinary bencher that have not much money to buy a CPU on demand, but have an unlockable X2 555 in my daily rig. What's the point in limiting me to the X2 category only and not letting me play X3 and X4 as well? I think the main reason was pushing people to use an actual X3 processor, not an unlocked one. But that's the only valid case where it actually makes sense in some extend. I don't see a problem using unlocked sempron in X2 category or unlocked Phenom X2/Athlon X3 for the X4 category. Maybe add a rule so X3 category is only for "native" X3?
  10. Nice one Wish I had a better SB http://hwbot.org/submission/2209968_i.nfrar.ed_3dmark2001_se_radeon_hd_4890_114125_marks
  11. Or maybe direct eliminations with team pairs or even a qualification round, then several groups, quarter finals, semi-finals... lol, sounds like a Football World Cup .
  12. Yeah, if it was up to me, I'd remove it completely or just get it to the PCMark04 level (HW points only). But I guess guys with expensive storage setups will complain about it.
  13. It was useless for me from a long time ago. Throw a big amount of money for storage, spend some time for tweaks (allowed or not..you can't detect what's used) and when you have an expensive storage system you're ready to test it with all CPUs you have..and you get hardware points for the cpu, but that's not a CPU benchmark anymore.
  14. Don't have enough time to read the whole thread there right now (and more important - understand it ), but I was actually thinking about an analogy with AMD ratios. So, bottom line, it seems that mainboard vendors artificially disable the possibility to run "out of sync" until now?
  15. You can test also if it's possible to tighten the timings more in the second case when compared to the first one. If that's a MGH-E based memory, you should be able to run 1422 5-5-5 or 5-6-5. In fact you should be able to pull tighter timings in the second case, regardless the memory chips used, if the real frequency is ~710.
  16. I personally don't like the idea of deleting better score and replacing it with worse. I'd rather submit my best score on water than aiming at the 6th place with lower clocks than my current 24/7. There won't be any effort in that score. Good that you can still fight for the first place and take 10 points, but let's consider the other possible situation. I'm fighting with knopflerbruce and tiborrr for the first place and throw everything possible in the stage, but in the end I end up 3rd, simply because they are better than me. I won't be disappointed, because it's just the place I'm able to get, no skills/hardware/luck for more. With the new rules, should I produce several results in different timeframes which don't represent my system's maximum and personal skills, and just wait and aim for the 6th place with deleting and uploading differenet scores, depending on other's scores? Imagine 10 minutes untill the end all people deleting better scores and uploading worse scores, so they can take the 6th place. I admire the idea of giving chances to air/water setups, but there are flaws as well. Don't know if there's a perfect solution. I'm ok with ES chips, as long as they are similar to retail chips (e.g. no unlocked multipliers, while the retail chip is locked). Since it's not a model based comp (e.g. Sempron 145 allowed only), I don't see a problem allowing ES chips.
  17. I still have one old C3 955, it was good on water back in time. Challenge accepted! 'Join' button asks for password, hm.
  18. Still managed to beat a DX11 noob like me (ran that a couple of times before, due to no suitable hardware) It's good you have at least a score, I can't imagine myself dealing with 3-4 cards, lol. I had hard times with 2x6990.
