  1. FYI, Winner article + lucky draw announcement is slated for next Monday. Awesome benching all and I look forward to Season 2!
  2. Thanks for putting this together @zeropluszero
  3. WOW! You keep on surprising me, @Strong Island. Even after all this time. Even after reaching top-3 worldwide. Fantastic benching! Where can I buy my Strong Island t-shirts
  4. Good point on the "warranty poll". On the topic of "I get it if it's cheap", I'd like to make an additional note: with order quantities as low as 100-1000 units with shipments worldwide, I don't think it's good to expect a "really low price" for limited edition boards like the LN2 board.
  5. Kaby is backwards compatible with Z170 and the Z270 PCH won't offer anything that would be of any benefit to overclockers, I think. I don't know if there will be a Z270 LN2 board either. How do you guys feel about warranty services? Skip and reduce price?
  6. 8. If my memory serves me right, designing a new motherboard costs around USD $100k-150k. This would include everything from VRM design, PCB and trace lay-out, bios, getting early samples to debug, etc. Of course also includes all the man-hours to work on this. An easy way to reduce the cost is to use one design for multiple SKUs and add/remove certain features. It's quite a costly affair
  9. Ah yes, there is. But I just left office, will post here tomorrow
  10. Another new version: XTU v6.1.2.11 http://hwbotdownloads.s3.amazonaws.com/downloads/benchmarks/Intel%20XTU/XTU-Setup_6.1.2.11.exe

  12. Hey guys, Some of you have been asking about making the Z170X-SOC Force LN2 board retail. I'm not sure if it will actually go retail, but a possible way out would be to do a group-order ourselves. Who'd be interested in buying one of the LN2 board? If there is sufficient demand, it should be possible for HWBOT to do the order and then ship to everyone else.
  13. First of all, really great feedback @Elkim. I hadn't considered this point of view earlier, but what you write makes total sense. :celebration: As usual, Xtreme Addict over-simplifies a complex situation. Long story short: it's difficult to justify spending heaps on prizes for XOC competitions when the participation is as low as it currently is. The current MSI XOC competition has 10 participants(*) and the top-3 receives a BWD-E CPU+MB+MEM. I've always advocated for XOC competitions, but even for me it's difficult to make a case nowadays as you can imagine. Of course HWBOT will still be organizing competitions for people who enjoy XOC as we've been doing since 2009 . XOC is of course not dead, but the huge 'easy' sponsorships and free hardware are gone. For now, at least, as it will come back once XOC gains traction again in the future. XOC has HUGE potential, as this is still the group that pushes the hardware to its limit. That is valuable in any industry, be it hardware, bicycles or audio. Anyone who wants to make something out of XOC will have to change approach to the hobby and prove to potential sponsors that affiliating products and brand with the XOC is good for them. See it as a challenge . Also, XOC still is a very easy way to promote your new product releases. It's not a coincidence that all the past CPU launches have had explicit focus on the overclocking capabilities on LN2. Judging from what I hear from inside the industry, I doubt this will change any time soon. If you want some inspiration, some recent XOC content that did very well: and . In general, I'd recommend to focus on 1) positive and passionate messaging, 2) reliable and resourceful information, and 3) be transparent about the difference between 'daily' use and 'overclocking' use of hardware. (*): I know how many samples have been sent out to XOC and it's more than the people participating in the competitions.
  14. Just get it over with Kenny. Tell us what the right LOD for 3DMark03 GT4 is
  15. 4.7 GHz on an ECS Z170 board? I'm genuinely impressed!
  16. It might be a very interesting show this year ;) Event is from Jan 5-8, in Las Vegas. Registrations open next month
  17. That was discussed but ultimately decided that it wouldn't be reasonable to spend resources on this. The main reasons are: 1) the equal score is so annoying because it gives a lot of points on hwbot (not XTU's fault) 2) the variation in score will increase as the score increases with next architectures. 3) the granularity would most likely just highlight random variation around the "score" rather than increase accuracy of the score
