JunkDogg Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 I was just reading through the 5G Skylake Tweakers challenge and it got me thinking about some of the issues with 3D lately. Which then got me looking for the GPU section of the forum. It wasn't until then I noticed we don't have one. We have sub forums for nearly every CPU architecture ever made and not even a single sub forum for GPU's. Could we not set something up like the CPU area? Then set up sub forum's for GPU architectures as they are released? Then from there I'm sure the set freq efficiency threads would start. Being a lower clock it might encourage more people to get involved. Also will give people somewhere more specific to ask their 3D/GPU questions. Get everything in one place and make it user friendly. Some nice effiency threads with CPU freq/NB Cap. Could even put a GPU freq/mem cap on it to make it more for tweakers. Anyway just a thought of stepping in the right direction with the focus on 3D lately. Quote
Lays Posted January 10, 2016 Posted January 10, 2016 I'd really like different categories for this, like "4 core firestrike madness" etc. Stuff where people can tweak and tune to get best scores for each platform perhaps. I think it'd be loads of fun for people that may now have 5960x, or other high end stuff, but may have a 4790k or something. Quote
Massman Posted January 10, 2016 Posted January 10, 2016 Moved this thread as sticky in the new sub-forum Quote
Noxinite Posted January 10, 2016 Posted January 10, 2016 Moved this thread as sticky in the new sub-forum Nice! For GPU efficiency challenges do you guys think there should be a cap on CPU clock, NB clock, GPU core clock and GPU mem clock? This would mean the efficiency lies in drivers, drives settings, extra software and RAM. Quote
K404 Posted January 10, 2016 Posted January 10, 2016 Sweeeeet! Thankyou Massman There should absolutely be limits, yes! If a card is picked for an efficiency challenge, how about using the average air MHz listed in its hardware page? (or whatever cooling the challenge wants) CPU and RAM limits... absolutely! Even though those will be 95% bottlenecks if challenging in an older benchmark on air Quote
Massman Posted January 10, 2016 Posted January 10, 2016 This topic of the efficiency challenge may be a good topic for the CCTF @xxbassplayerxx, @Rasparthe, @ObscureParadox, @zeropluszero, @Don_Dan Quote
JunkDogg Posted January 10, 2016 Author Posted January 10, 2016 (edited) Awesome PJ. Thanks mate. Will work on bit of a structure, of what I think we could possibly break it down like the CPU sub forums. Maybe something like this... Open to suggestions on more or less. Old School Mobile APU iGPU NVIDIA Old School - Still smoking MX's and RIVA's GeForce 6 GeForce 7 GeForce 8 GeForce 9 GeForce 2xx GeForce 4xx GeForce 5xx GeForce 6xx GeForce 7xx GeForce 9xx Radeon Old School - Overvolting VIVA's and X1900's for years Radeon HD 2xxx Radeon HD 3xxx Radeon HD 4xxx Radeon HD 5xxx Radeon HD 6xxx Radeon HD 7xxx Radeon Rx 2xx Radeon Rx 3xx Edited January 10, 2016 by JunkDogg Quote

I was thinking code name Pitciarn, ect. Quote
speed.fastest Posted January 10, 2016 Posted January 10, 2016 Wow, really good idea! I think for GPU is better based on Codename because many rebranded card. If not based on GPU architecture name (GCN, Kepler, Maxwell, etc). Quote
zeropluszero Posted January 10, 2016 Posted January 10, 2016 Ive run efficiency threads on Australian forums, do set cpu clocks and gpu clocks on the benchmark, usually stock gpu speed and 4.5ghz cpu, then start a leaderboard. 01 is awesome for this. Quote

zeropluszero Posted January 12, 2016 Posted January 12, 2016 @JunkDogg what would you like to see as far as an efficiency thread goes? What would be a good way to run it do you think? something like our threads on OCAU? Quote

Yeah mate, I think like that would be perfect. It's fairly easy to distinguish who is on air/water and extreme in that format. We should get the family sub forums put together first though I'd say. This way it's easier to know where they are and easier to find. If someone could help me as I don't know code/family/architecture names for each generation of GPU. Also how far back you would like it to go until it goes into old school? Thanks Quote
zeropluszero Posted January 12, 2016 Posted January 12, 2016 Thats going to put in a huge amount of subforums, eve of just for families. Do we want to just make threads for cards? Gtx580 thread... Blah blah Quote
JunkDogg Posted January 12, 2016 Author Posted January 12, 2016 I realise it will be a lot of sub forums. There are a lot of them in the CPU area as well. I just think if we have 300 odd threads in one spot no one will ever find anything. Once it's set up though, it should be fairly easy to navigate. Up to everyone though, I'm just happy to see it happened. Once step in the right direction. Quote

Massman Posted January 14, 2016 Posted January 14, 2016 You can get the overall usage figures for each of the graphics cards by either checking the participants in the hardware rankings (per benchmark) or hardware pages (total submissions). By using the search function and selecting the option "Best submission" under "other" you can count the amount of users. It's a bit of work, I know. Specific lists like the one I posted here are only possible with database access. Quote

Massman Posted January 16, 2016 Posted January 16, 2016 I think there is one thread with the list of "most valuable rankings". I updated it periodically, but I guess with the embed stuff it could just be updated all the time (if the query isn't too hard on the database). Quote
