I.nfraR.ed Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 Bulldozer? Llano? Thuban? Deneb? In that order? Too bad only Gigabyte boards allowed I might end up buying Llano setup though. Quote
Massman Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 I think ... A8-3870K might turn out to be quite interesting. Quote
TaPaKaH Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 I think ... A8-3870K might turn out to be quite interesting. It might be interesting to bench, but it's a waste of money since you can't use it for anytihng else other than this contest Quote
Massman Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 Really? Llano should be quite decent for a mainstream system, I reckon. Quote
I.nfraR.ed Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 Can we have a mobo from different vendor and put a gigabyte DDR2 module on top of it? All AMD CPUs allowed, not only Llano? Quote
TaPaKaH Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 I can't imagine anyone willing to use a weaksauce quadcore with integrated graphics for any sort of non-benching application (unless you need an multithreaded encoding rig, are on a budget but want brand new hardware, and have a hate towards AM3 and Intel) .. especially the expensive K model Quote
Massman Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 Can we have a mobo from different vendor and put a gigabyte DDR2 module on top of it? All AMD CPUs allowed, not only Llano? Mainboard has to be Gigabyte. All AMD cpus allowed (even K6 ) Quote
I.nfraR.ed Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 Doh, who uses s.A Gigabyte board Btw, as I'm already completely out of topic...for me ТАРАКАН means "таракан/хлебарка" in Russian/Bulgarian or "cockroach" in English, lol. Quote
saint19 Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 Nice, an AMD competition again. Now to see the best way to disable my WC rig for use the GB mobo. Question: Can we use different CPUs in each stage? I mean, X6 1090T for wPrime 32M stage and X2 555 for SuperPI 32M stage? Quote
Massman Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 Doh, who uses s.A Gigabyte board I think the real question is why you use a socket A mainboard for a K6 cpu ... I.nfraR.ed Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 I think the real question is why you use a socket A mainboard for a K6 cpu ... Cause I "can"...and most probably, because I'm very sleepy Quote
saint19 Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 Let see the options of do something decent here: Participants: 1) Mad222 2) TaPaKaH 3) I.nfraR.ed 4) El_Gappo 5) Christian Ney Looks like a top end overclockers competition... lol Quote
Crew Turrican Posted February 13, 2012 Crew Posted February 13, 2012 Will use this: Gigabyte GA-5AX i have it here as well. Quote
I.nfraR.ed Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 Who said I'm any near the top overclockers and who said I have Gigabyte board? *Looks around, hoping to find any Giga board...uhm, no...* Quote
El Gappo Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 No decent AMD chips left but sounds like fun. Tempted to try find one as already have a UD7. Quote
saint19 Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 I'd like to see all the participants (included me) make a deal, not BD cpus for this contest. Only use deneb or thuban cores, but that is almost impossible. Quote
El Gappo Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 Deneb/Thuban is better than bulldozer anyway Quote
debs3759 Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 If the processor isn't delayed for too long in customs (hey, who want to pay UK retail prices when they can get lightly used processor at almost half the cost from the USA?) I'll have a 3870K in a UD4 for this comp. I've been looking for a dual-opteron board recently as well, but I don't think GB made any of them so I won't be trying that No idea how well the platform will do under chilled water, but it's gonna be fun finding out (even if it's not common enough to give good points - not sure I want to kill it on day 1 for 1 competition point ) Quote
saint19 Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 Deneb/Thuban is better than bulldozer anyway If you say so, I preferred bought SB than a BD CPU... Quote
Bones Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 Mainboard has to be Gigabyte. All AMD cpus allowed (even K6 ) Well I do have a 754 Gigabyte board I could fire up just to have some fun in this - If the board itself still works, haven't tried it in ages and really need to find out if it's still working. I realize there is no way a 754 system will be in the running for prizes but it's about having fun to me and to see how well I can make it do regardless. Quote

saint19 Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 Ehr, whut?! That's the spirit! Yeah I know.... But my mobo don't support BD and keeping the competition on Deneb/Thuban core is the only option to do something decent...I think...lol Anyway, it's just for fun at the end Quote
Waco Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 Maybe I'm being stupid...but don't contests like these only award those that already have the best hardware? I mean - nobody is going to win with a UD3 board...so what's the point? The guys with the best stuff will win. The guys that could actually use a nice new board get left out... Quote

Well, even with the best components you still need know how to overclock it for get better results than the others. Quote
