  1. Ok will do IIRC every GOC 2015 finalist is given a 4000c19 HOF kit (of 4 sticks), I don't know if its considered ES or retail. But as Bullshooter pointed out above, if it's ES then it's probably won't be able to be used then
  2. Questions: 1) Who should we ask for the HOF 1060 "OC Tools Pack" ? 2) In case our previously bought HOF RAM is damaged, can we use the Galax HOF e-die 4000c19 sticks given from last year's GOC (Assuming it's counted as retail) ? There's no purchase invoice for those though. Thanks

  5. This, 100% agree. Counting the hardware cost needed to join that qualifier (it's pretty OK, but you still need good amount of money if you want to bin them), that added 50 EUR might've been too much for some if they knew there's little chance they're getting anything out of that qualifier (especially if they're against high-ranked 'monsters' that might be competing like Dancop and Rauf :p ) The Lucky Draw streacom benchtable is nice, but it might be a bit nicer if the prize for tournament with an entry fee like this spread out a bit (example: 4th to 5th place might be getting their entry fee back?). Or like above suggestion, maybe give a additional merchandise, T-Shirt, or something else. As a crazy idea though, IF there's an option like A) 50 EUR 'normal' entry Fee B) 200 EUR entry fee , but we get i3-6320 binned to 1.2V Cinebench R15 4.5Ghz + shipping I'd take option B any day Oh well, I wanted a chance of doing WT qualifier since I missed previous two chances (WT Computex and WT Indonesia), so even though I knew I would most likely be bottom tier in this competition, I still paid the ticket because I appreciate the chance
  6. I don't test X99 as much as you guys do, but I can say that there's truth to this, memory tuning doesn't really matter in XTU for X99 Platform. (it scales well in 3D11 Physics, geekbench, pi and other memory-sensitive benchmark. Just not XTU) I'm just speculating here because I don't have data to the 'inner workings' of XTU, but maybe in X99 it doesn't scale much because the L3 Cache in the CPU for X99 platform(HSW-E, BDW-E) is already big enough for XTU workload that memory performance doesn't matter that much? Only the devs can know for sure though. It surely scales with memory on the 115x platform. Btw, really nice guide Rauf! Thanks for posting it

I spent my last years' saving mostly to buy 10 pcs i7-6700K just to get 1 that does 6.38 Hwbot Prime (but one bad 6.1 cpu apparently reached good IGP speed to help me reach top 3 gskill so that's lucky one), and a couple i3-6100 that doesn't even reach 5.8G. I don't mind binning, it's always part of the game, but with this kind of odds I'd be losing money really fast. So if somebody is selling me their "reject-but-it-look-like-its-binned-to-most-people" part with rather reasonable price, I'd take it. I love to have a cherry-picked parts, but sometimes if the price is too much, I'll settle with the 'good enough' ones, as long as I can do some decent benchmark out of it, and most importantly: have fun with that chip

Interesting question I'm now 30, I've been overclocking since junior high back in 2000-ish, doing mainly competitive oc since 2006-2007, and got a job offer a couple years later as an overclocker for Indonesian hardware site(JagatReview.com), doing hardware review but more specifically from overclocking+performance side. I started overclocking just to see how a certain piece of technology being pushed to its absolute limit. Since I love learning about technology, especially from performance point of view, doing extreme overclocking(even if it seems pointless to some) give me a different perspective how to see things, and pushed me to learn a lot different things. Aside from that, the best part of extreme overclocking for me is meeting new friends from all over the world who just as weird as I do(sorry for the expression but I can't choose the right words for this one haha^^), pushing tech to the extreme even though most people think that PC's nowadays are too fast already. About 'overclocking as a job' though, IMHO it wouldn't be easy since the competitions are really tough, and I don't think many hardware vendors/companies prioritized in searching for 'overclockers' anymore, so I guess your skillset as overclocker must give a specific benefit to whoever it is who's hiring you. That said, I can't really give any suggestion about 'how to be hired by a hardware vendor', that's still a far reach for normal human like me hahah^^.
  11. Nice new Idea, gaming benchmark if done properly can attract more newcomers instead of standard synthetic bench. Now what's left is finding a cheap game with integrated benchmark, and maybe DRM-free to make installation a bit easier (I will probably try Ashes of The Singularity from GOG here, they say it's DRM Free for the single player and benchmark)

Interesting tool you have there man, thanks for sharing it Previously, I use afterburner to send i2c command (simple command like MSIafterburner.exe /wi6,08,8D,xx where xx is the value you wanted, wrote the test in Indonesian here), so a tool like yours could come in handy indeed Out of some RX480 that I tried, some actually scales with volts, my random reference that hits 1360Mhz on 1.15v(1.125v after loadline), can be pushed further to hit 1400Mhz @ 1.17v. But adding volts really make that GPU draws a LOT more power, I think we can expect 250W power draw at around 1500Mhz 1.25V-1.275v - pretty sad efficiency for 14nm, guess that 14nm LPP isn't that good at the high voltage range. Maybe I'll try it after I got time to play with RX480 on cold Cheers,
  13. I'm not expert enough to be able to predict how future tech will be affected by overclocking, or even how they scale with extreme cooling. And I agree a few of these trends doesn't seem to favor overclockers/extreme overclockers, like: - Further component integration might make overclocking difficult(tuning BCLK from an SoC design) - VRM design with advanced telemetry which makes hardmodding/bypassing them with external VRM difficult - Move to lower-power type fabrication that don't seem to scale on the upper TDP range, or maybe a certain factor in their process node that don't favor extreme cooling - Agressive per-part binning from vendor to maximize clocks from factory, minimizing overclocking headroom I don't really care if the big company have a different agenda compared to us oc community, they have their reasons too. For me personally, overclocking is something I enjoy just because I'm able to play and tinker with my hardware, pushing it to the utmost limit to gain best performance, no matter what hardware or even the condition. A support from the hardware vendor is great, but it doesn't mean I can't have fun with hardware I bought even if the vendors have different priorities in designing their hardware. I just happy to see there's some tuning knob left to tweak

  15. Still trying to find a way to send command to the IR3567B to give the card MOAR volts at the moment (or just mod it), and looking for a way to test the PCIe power draw if it indeed can be damaging to motherboards when the GPU is overclocked. Stay tuned folks!
