  1. Agreed. I've never understood these competitions. If they want to get people to use MSI, the way to do so is to give a board/GPU to the winner that doesn't already have an MSI board/GPU. Then maybe they'll use it and become MSI customers. ....but what do I know?
  2. FWIW, I agree with pretty much everything in Bobnova's post: http://hwbot.org/forum/showpost.php?p=221885&postcount=43 . Except Aquamark. Leave that alone. I heart Aquamark, always will. It might be better moved over to CPU benches though. borandi, Pro OC doesn't need anything as it's about to go the way of the dodo.
  3. I don't think so, at least not if they ever use ES chips or are sponsored or are an employee that gets relatively unlimited hardware. I asked privately since I have submitted results with three ES processors over that many years (and not very good ones, because ES these days aren't any better than retail chips; in my case nowhere near as good). If you submit with ES processors, you're pro, period. Going back to XOL isn't an option. Thus, after the Rev.5 pro league comes into being, my profile will languish in purgatory, unranked. That is the price for submitting ES results to help my team with a few points. Lest someone come up with the solution of submitting ES results without points, I cannot afford to replace ES CPUs with retail in every circumstance, so those points are needed. I'd rather my profile disappear into the nether personally and still be able to help my team then lose those points.
  4. FWIW, I never said nor meant to imply others were free of fault. Just trying to help point out why reception to some of your posts, specifically in the situation outlined above, might have been a little cool. Others can be just as abrasive as you or even more so.
  5. Thanks! The "X" configuration was an idea another of our reviewers had (MattNo5ss). Looks great for photos. As far as the TridentX fins, yes, actually. I mean, they're not going to cut you if you just brush by them but if you put pressure on it or maybe accidentally fall on your RAM you could hurt yourself a little bit. They're not for cuddling. If it's a concern for you, the red part is removable. Just take one of the screws out on either side and slide them off. Makes for less sharp RAM and shorter sticks to prevent CPU heatsink clearance issues.
  6. Here are some photos from a bunch of RAM I received recently. These are sexy just because of the ridiculous quantity (64GB) Faster, sexier RAM:
  7. Let me be equally blunt. Your posting style can sometimes be described as abrasive at best. Several times in the past I can recall thinking the way you post makes it seem (rightly or wrongly) like you believe you know everything there is to know about threads in which you post and everyone should listen to you because there is no other possible explanation. Damnit you know it and you're right and everyone else can go fly a kite. This is why you get the reactions you do. Not because you don't know your stuff - you do, very much so - but because you often come across as rather abrasive. The "experts" in question were likely trying to help. "Experts" on forums can be just as wrong and off-base as everybody else. Just because they try to help in one sub-section they like posting in does not make them expert, nor do they necessarily believe they are experts. That title is given to them by people who associate "posting in this forum mainly and often" with "expert". The two are not equal to each other as you obviously know at this point. Anyway, if you see that problem, jump in and try to help. If you did so without saying you hadn't read the thread (hint: it makes it sound like you think you're too important to thoroughly read through the steps this person has tried) and attempted to share your knowledge with the person without hinting around (and then plainly stating) the above rant, it probably would have helped the person rather than gone on the tangent of discussing your problems with some of the people posting in the thread. EDIT - Let me be clear, I think you are a very knowledgeable person and really do aim to help people when you post in their threads. This is about perception, not about knowledge, experience or lack thereof. You have plenty of both. It's the whole how-you-come-across thing that could occasionally use improvement. You aren't abrasive all the time; in fact much of the time you're quite amicable. However, you can occasionally let frustration get to you and it comes across in your posts.
  8. +1 to making a bench out of it! The cartoon was great. The creepy dubstep was cool too. Well done. It's crazy how time consuming animation is.
  9. Well that's a neat trick. Wonder if having a 1440p monitor will give a (minor) score boost since there isn't any processing power lost to scaling it down? ...and so it was, benchmarkers everywhere shed a tear that they'd have to upgrade their benching monitors too.
  10. Well, it ran 2600 on ambient but wasn't stable. I didn't have time to track down WHAT was unstable though, so it may not have been RAM/IMC. My time cold was very limited, so I left the RAM where I knew it would run and focused only on the CPU. It does run 2400 (highest mem divider @ stock 200MHz fsb) without issue right out of the box.
  11. This is the second submission (SP1M was the first) that says "n/a" for FX-8350 rank and doesn't appear in the rankings. Am I doing something wrong? EDIT - Nevermind, it just doesn't calculate that instantly. Disregard.
  12. Heh, not all first run chips made it near this far. I only made 7.3 at 1.9V. NAMEGT could very well know something I don't though, I only had ~2.5 hours worth of cold benching total. Great clocks NAMEGT, especially with all eight cores!!
  13. Aaaaand, when things like this don't go well, this happens. Don't drink LN2 people!
  14. Did you ever receive your beautifully carved artwork back or is that what's complicated? Are the people you're talking to aware it is indeed said carved artwork? Heh.
  15. Vince gets the extra special LN2 with a lower boiling point. Great score!!
  16. Why aren't you up in arms about 'counterfeit' CPU? It was NOT counterfeit, thank you very much; it was inscribed. As in, they drove Ney so damn crazy, he went and inscribed his RMA number on the CPU.
  17. Yep, Marc's always a safe bet.
