Just wanted to share a few simple things I found while testing XP on Apex XI over the paste couple? days. Kinda all a blur, but exciting times.
For anyone wondering you can do the Text>GUI (iso on ram) install using PCI to USB 2.0/3.0 (NEC) card so you can have extra files available right away
The original files (USB ROOT) from Asus Impact VIII days (firahelper.ima.gz/firahelper64.ima.gz/grldr/menu.lst) work fine
In RMPrepUSB I used "Fat32" and ticked the "Boot as HDD (C: 2PTNS)" box next to it
Probably most important note was having to enable CSM (Compatiblity Support Module) in bios for "Legacy Boot" so USB stick would work as bootable.
My usb sticks would not boot on APEX XI untill i switch uefi boot to 2nd option

By the way - turbov 1.01.15 seems to be working fine but it keeps bclock on reboot.

Havent tried 1.01.14 that should fix this issue.

Then you should be able to get the SSD and boot on z390.

I took my Z390 Dark Win XP and replaced acpi.sys and syssetup.dll and it gave blue screen 7B with M11A. Seems like reinstallation is required.

Edit: My bad, Z390 Dark uses Asmedia SATA while Apex only has Intel SATA. Z390 Dark OS modded with Z390 ASUS files makes XP work on X299 Dark

So it works ? 7B is AHCI issue, these will help

Did you try this? In the instructions it tells to load "hive system". However there is no such "hive" file to be found in the folder, so that's where it falls apart for me
Loaded the "system" with no hive, but that doesn't look like the registry from the 2nd drive

Don't bother with hyve edit on another compi,you've got the patched file by Diderius here https://www.win-raid.com/t4035f45-Windows-XP-Bit-and-Server-Bit-on-Modern-Hardware-212.html#msg94682 

just put it in the right folder and try to boot

Another thing to know is if you didn't replace ACPI.sys file in SP3.cab of i386 folder,after each BSOD during set-up it automaticaly take the back-up file in SP3.cab and replace the modded one in System32\drivers so you'll have BSOD again and again because of that.You need to replace ACPI.sys after each BSOD or mod your SP3.cab with the same file you put in i386 iso folder.

Thanks, as I am trying to switch a working Z390 Dark XP to a Z390 Asus XP, I have not modded any .cab files. Tried changing .cab file first to start with clean install but 7zip gives an error.

No more 7B bluescreen, this error message is next, unfortunately this file is not part of the AHCI driver. This is not my day, going from one dead end to another dead end

Don't give up it will work but even for a clean iso it progress litle step by little step,as you can see on win-raid it wasn't easy to have it working on the Gene.

Not sure 7zip is able to create cab,only extract I think.You need to use specific software for cab or a script via cmd.

STORAHCI.sys is in the archive shared by GTIJason fiew post ago,you need to put it in System32\drivers with STORPORT.sys too.After that I think you'll be able to boot in Safe Mode,if yes install STORAHCI via .ini file and execute the reg file,if I remember well normal boot will be ok after that ;)

Used some of the info and files here + testing and updated the initial post with how to get older images to work on z390

You got USB ports to work in OS using this method ? I guess it has to either be done using Win 10 on 2nd rig since it fails when using the files copied from PCI E to USB 2.0 card to C drive

Don't get me wrong , I'm very busy with a lot of things ( family , work and others) Until I can find some time, I prefer to do some benches ( usually after midnight ?).

1 - restore the image on the z170 / z270 and run xp on this system

2 - follow the first page guide on replacing files in the system32 and system32/driver folder and register the driver sata via the reg file

3- mount the disk on z390 and you will have a  xp from bench

This don't work with M8I CL Bios? Because i get only BSOD when trying to start after restore the Image.

the sata driver for z170 is not present in this tib file, you get 7b error?

Sry my bad.. i restore the Image again and now it works.

 

edit:  Oh man i am not really concentrated this evening.. at second try i've choose the wrong image (barbonets xp).. thats why it works...
