so not a single round as in the past?

I wrote about the previous cheapaz cpus to confirm the style comp: cheap vga, 3d (or gpu-based) benchs

for 2020 do you propose 3 cheapaz rounds with 3 different vgas?

I haven't competed in cheapass compos yet, so take my opinion with a grain of salt..... I pretty much agree with @zeropluszero it should be a cheap vga and gpu bound benches. The point of this co

I'm not going to claim that I know everything about cheapaschips competitions but clearly I do. step1 - hardware that is AVAILABLE GLOBALLY - useless for this kind of comp if people in europe cant

Well said Matt I have competed there and here in these comps and this is what Cheapaschips is and should be a cheap video card where people can learn to mod and tune and it doesnt really matter w

my personal thought is that 3 rounds could be interesting, 1 or 2 month for each round (3 stages for every round as in the past e.g.); also more rounds, if including vega integrated gpus, maybe with a ryzen superpi32m stage :D

We have the poll right to pick the GPU, currently in the lead is HD 5770, but there is a very similar Juniper based card the HD 6770.

My question is:

Round 1 with HD 5770 only or HD 5770 + HD 6770

Round 2 with GTS 450 or 550Ti

Round 3 with GTX 950

Are you concerned that having 3 rounds this year will limit options for the future of cheapazz comps? I thought there were some concerns about not enough cheap and widely available vga models to keep the comp going long term without needing to revisit previous hardware.

imho there are plenty out there, just not plenty of newer ones. Looking at previous comps we have not had much representation from tons of maxwell, kepler, fermi, gcn (various), tesla cards. So I think we definitely have tons of possible cards for the future. I'd say we're limited by 1. how slow of cards are people willing to run and 2. how much of a requirement must mods be. For example lots of newer and slightly newer cards can get fairly full voltage control through software so mods then become about secondary rails, cap mods, and potential epower if vrm is too weak.

Both compos are pre-configured (+background is requested from the artwork designer)

Anyway still open for inputs for benchmark selection and if needed CPU restriction ( MHZ) for the HD 5770 Round

nice start, and if replace 3dm11p gpu score with a gpupi 1b (e.g.) the scores will be good also for the HD5770 rankings

HD 5770 does not do double precision, so no GPUPI action there. Need baby Cypress (HD 5830) for GPUPI.

4.5 GHz max

I would go for no frequency/cooling limit. I like seeing records broken during competitions, but that's just me.

What records are going to be broken on this card? Cheapaz is supposed to be primarily gpu limited, the cpu limits are just to make sure.

s939 only. ?

I see the comp page and the second stage is Gpupi 3.2 1B. HD5770 can not run this?

Yes first thing is to finalize G.Skill rules and yes we have to finalize  Cheapaz too.

  • GPUPI will be replaced for the Discrete HD 5770 stage
  • CPU clocks will be limited
  • background has been requested and will be available at the start of the competition)

cpu freq limit not necessary, all three of those benches are gpu bound.

Good idea to have one just to be safe.

4003 or 4503Mhz or higher?

4503

yeah I don't see the point of CPU frequency limitation when the GPU is what is holding the bench back
