K404 Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 Is it possible to buy these anywhere? If not... should results that use them be moved to the Pro league? ...same for the eVGA Untouchables results. Product is not in retail........ Quote
TaPaKaH Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 evbots might have been retail available for a couple of seconds, but xpanders weren't, so I think your argument is valid Quote
Massman Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 I have emails from @asus folks that literally say "xpander is available in retail". I think they were in stores in Japan, or so. Quote
Hondacity Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 Evbots are retail Xpander were given away as prizes at an event. It was not an engineering sample. So when is Sambo shifting to Pro league? Quote
K404 Posted January 7, 2012 Author Posted January 7, 2012 "Not saying but showing" Was there proof? As a general idea, should there be a minimum standard of availability before something is considered "retail" ? Example....Minimum 4 continents, available in shops as well as e-tail, no lead time? Foxconn Dreadnought was not ES.... but not released How can a user get one? Do they need company contacts...... yes? Quote

Christian Ney Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 I saw one Xpander once, in Hiwa's hands Quote
K404 Posted January 7, 2012 Author Posted January 7, 2012 "but the launch date and pricing have yet to be confirmed." Based on that statement, no proof of launched in retail. Quote
Hondacity Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 the rog xpander box I have here is retail. can't take pix atm. Quote
TaPaKaH Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 following same logic, ES CPUs are also available in retail - in Dell-built PCs, for example Quote
K404 Posted January 7, 2012 Author Posted January 7, 2012 How did you get the Xpander? Box != retail Quote

As a general idea, should there be a minimum standard of availability before something is considered "retail" ? Example....Minimum 4 continents, available in shops as well as e-tail, no lead time? That involves too much work and it doesn't make things much better. Remember F1-OC where Evga made the GTX285 Classifieds "retail" by setting up a (fake) pre-order system? Quote
Massman Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 following same logic, ES CPUs are also available in retail - in Dell-built PCs, for example We follow the original vendor's guidelines. In this case: if Asus wants to say the Xpander really is a retail product, then fine for us. If Intel says ES is never available in retail, then okay fine for us. Quote
Hondacity Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 How did you get the Xpander? Box != retail perfect pix tomorrow or next week i have the retail box Quote
K404 Posted January 7, 2012 Author Posted January 7, 2012 (edited) Yes, there should be a way of preventing such events from influencing leaderboards. HWB set up the Pro league....HWB should have clear and comprehensive criteria for inclusion or exclusion? @Honda.... != means "not equal to" ......... Box just means they at least THOUGHT about releasing it eVGA Untouchables. Available in retail? Results submitted with it? What happens? Edited January 7, 2012 by K404 Quote
matose Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 Expander was Retail and available in ASUS Hub in NL (Europe) for order by dealers. The problem is that regular people does not have use for this so the distributors didn't make orders on it.... that's why availability was inexistent Quote
Massman Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 I know what you're trying to do, K404, but we're not going to start a witchhunt to try and track down every single user that got a free hw sample or a nice company contact that gives him better access to certain information. It's not because you get something for free that you are automatically Pro. Moving to Pro is on a voluntary basis if the user feels that he's has too much company contacts to compete in the regular league. Of course, there are exceptions like people who actually work for a vendor (which will be 'forced' to pro) and we're also sometimes contacting people to check if they want to consider moving due to contacts. Hiwa Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 they are both retail kenny, i saw evbot in retail in germany and italy, xpander in us or japan maybe. Quote

Hondacity Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 Vince should send kenny untouchables so kenny can join the pro league. happy ending the end lol Quote

What am I trying to do? Free hardware is not the problem. There are physical items out there that some people were given, have seen stacks of.... and they are things that some people can buy if they have enough money and some people cannot buy no matter how much money they have. lol... "too many contacts to compete in the regular league" that is not possible @ Hiwa & Matose: Thanks for the info Quote
Massman Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 why are the rules not consistent?you can have a current-gen ES without any manufacturer contacts and you're 'forced' to Pro Because people bitched and whined about the ES being oh-so WR-capable that it was unfair competing against them. Quote
K404 Posted January 7, 2012 Author Posted January 7, 2012 Did you ever wonder if part of the problem was competing against the people who had such easy access to A/the hardware early...and had an understanding of it before anyone else and B/in volume, so they could bin for free Quote
Christian Ney Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 I binned/tested 47 Pentium 1 75 MHz, and so far the three ES were the best ones fyi Quote
