Posted August 16, 201212 yr Sister thread to "The Rage" I have just embarrassed myself by benching with what I can only guess is a dodgy SLI bridge connection. LN2 clocks couldn't beat guys running on air. Awesome Weirdly, i'm not mad. Probably a bad sign EDIT: Just checked my result screenies. All except one were in PCI-E 1.1 mode. Wow. Fail indeed! August 17, 201212 yr Author No no..... other people are meant to post their stories of fail to make me feel better!!
August 17, 201212 yr I believe my worst 'benching' fail was at P55 Challenge Hamburg, and not my poor choice of a teammate, but rather Stoolman busting me and making my face turn ruby red from blushing, just prior to the contest start :-)
August 17, 201212 yr Crew Marc your epic fail moment was in the Romanian guys' room at the Paris Tweaking event. The moment you told everybody you would be easily sub 9 mins at 4ghz, I asked who is this guy ?

I did not say such a thing, I said the mark for tomorrow would be to hit sub 9, and if we had better ram, we would have made it =]
August 18, 201212 yr No no..... other people are meant to post their stories of fail to make me feel better!! Apparently I killed a possible 7 GHz Phenom II CPU by mounting the pot too tight...
August 18, 201212 yr No no..... other people are meant to post their stories of fail to make me feel better!! Got done with a DICE bench session and didn't want the acetone to corrode the pot (AL/Cu mix), so grabbed it off the chip and dumped it in the toilet. I and most everyone else ususally disposes of liquids and other things in the toilet, so why not -80C acetone? When the acetone hit the poo water, it was like a gyser of toilet water, DICE and freezing acetone, right in the face. Yeah...

August 19, 201212 yr Apparently I killed a possible 7 GHz Phenom II CPU by mounting the pot too tight... I did that twice Also the acetone thing with a pot i didn't seal off corroded the conformal coat on the PCB, which i failed with too because I used acrylic based lol. I guess you live and learn and then get lost.
August 19, 201212 yr Author I'm beginning to think i've lost my mojo. Tonight was even worse! At least last time I was getting scores..... didn't even see GT2 tonight, in ANY benchmark.

When the acetone hit the poo water, it was like a gyser of toilet water, DICE and freezing acetone, right in the face. Yeah... Did that. Once. Had just cleaned the toilet thankfully. The fun part was getting all the acetone splatters off the floor before they ate a hole in it, while still covered in acetone myself.
September 6, 201212 yr Author I get the nasty feeling that I rejected & sold a potentially good card because it appeared to have a hardlimit at 999MHz core.... My mistake? Using nV 300-series drivers..... FAIL
September 6, 201212 yr I waisted at least 100l of ln2 before I figured out my 8800 gtx thermal paste was cracking. Thought it had no cold bug so I was benching it full pot, realized I was doing it wrong and actually has cold bug @ -120 , thats my biggest fail of the year so far, besides super pi 32m that is
September 12, 201212 yr Author Here is someone elses fail. Bought this card on Ebay a few days ago: Yup........The PWM heatsink was held on with blu-tack. I didn't notice until i'd tested the card.... I did wonder what the funny smell was....
October 21, 201212 yr Author It was a 9800GT with a faulty vMem circuit.... was prepping it for future Zombie..... Not any more! Some pads are missing
