Skylake/Kaby Lake/Coffee Lake (-X) (Z170/Z270/Z370/X299) OC

The sky is the limit

  1. Started by havli,

Hi, I'm considering to get a Skylake for playing around and also some nice legacy 3DMark action... it seems s1151 is the last platform capable of running XP, so there is no point in further waiting. I did some research regarding XP and Z170 but I'm still not exactly sure what is needed. First let's list some features I'd like to have: 1. locked CPU OC (must have) 2. win XP working for 3D benchmarks while running overclocked locked Skylake. (must have) 3. SLI 8+8 (would be nice) 4. support for future Kaby Lake unlock i5/7 (would be nice) 5. be able to upgrade/downgrade bios in some relatively painless way when switching Kaby/Skylake Probably all …

  2. I have some question about DIMM slot. Is it true that each slot is not equal in strength when it come to memory overclocking ? I have i5-6500 ASUS Z170-A (I know this is budget board ) and 16GB TDZ 3600C17. Only A2 slot will easily boot at 3866 15-15-15-28-1T 1.45V and can pass Super PI 32M / Hyper Pi 32M very very easily (I try both stick of RAM in A2 Slot to check that this is not memory fault). Other slot will not even boot at 3866 whatever timing or no matter how much VCCIO VCCSA VDIMM. Motherboard manual suggest that memory should go into A2 and B2 slot. So I try to max out B2 slot alone but 3733 is already hard to boot. 3600 is actually hard too bu…

Hi everyone I am new to this forums. I have problem with VCCIO and VCCSA. If I set these voltage at 1.125V (real value from HWinfo64 is around 1.168V) or higher then the speaker will have crackling noise. Drop down below 1.125V problem solve. I don't think that VCCIO and VCCSA @ 1.125V are too high for 24/7. Is there any fix ? Thanks in advance my spec i5-6500 @ 4.8Ghz 1.38V ASUS Z170-A 0050 bios G.Skill TridentZ 3600Mhz CL17 @ 14-15-15-28-260-2T 1.45V (need VCCIO and VCCSA at least 1.125V to pass memtest). Hi everyone. New 6700k build here and finally got things up and running. I hate to have to come here and ask such a noobish and silly question but--and maybe my expectations are out of whack--my XTU benchmarks seem much lower than what I'm finding for similar specs and components. It's not clear to me yet whether I won the silicon lottery with this chip (I'm leaning towards an emphatic "no") but, regardless... At 4.5Ghz and RAM at 3200Mhz with timings of 14-14-14-34-2T, I'm barely hitting 1350. I've seen folks posting well over 1500 with similar specs. I did a new install of Windows 7 Pro SP1 64-bit and the only thing I noticed about a lot of those scores is t…

Hey everyone. Trying to run off with some prizes and falling flat on my face at 4.9 GHz. I'm using AIO cooling with AC blowing direct into my intake area, specs are Maximus VIII Gene Corsair Vengeance LPX currently @ 3200 Mhz H100i Cooling i7 6700k stable at 4.8 I have 7 140 mm intakes including the radiator fans, as well as 1 240mm fan, and 1 200 mm exhaust fan. Idle temps hover around 26 C, load 35-40, benchmark about 80-90 C. You can see my latest submission at http://hwbot.org/submission/3191257 I don't seem to see any irregularities and I'm a bit curious if my RAM is what's making my OC crash. I can start up and run at 4.9 no problems, bu…

  8. where would be a good place to start with overclocking. im new to this and want to try get my head aruond it all, i dont want to damage anything so want to know the safest place to start and increments i should raise ... ill be happy with a 4.4/4.5ghz overclock thanks

  9. Hi, I am quite new to overclocking CPUs since I am a gamer and CPU was never the bottleneck. While waiting for my 1080 Strixes to arrive, I have turned to CPU OCing. I have ASUS Z170 Deluxe 6700K 32 GB of Corsair Vengeance LPX 2400, Corsair 1200AX and Intel 2500 Pro series 480 GB SSD. I managed to get a stable OC of 4.7 GHz w/o Voltage but the submission to HWBot says this: Your system is not performing badly, but there are a few people with a Core i7 6700K running at a lower frequency and performing better. XTU - karlisn - Core i7 6700K Is there something really important I am missing that could boost my results with the same frequency? Thanks in …

  10. I was thinking of adding a TEC/Peltier in between the CPU and my AIO Cooler (peltier's cold side cooling the CPU, hot side of the peltier cooled by the AIO), but I was concerned about condensation, and how much the M/B has to be insulated so there won't be any shorts/damage to the M/B. I want this to be a permanent solution, not just a temporary one, so please take this into consideration as well. Should I go for it, or is it just unsuitable for the long run? I was thinking of using a method similar to this: http://forum.hwbot.org/showthread.php?t=58875 The peltier that I have and I am planning to use is this one: TEC-12706 (60W), along with my 6600k.

  12. I want to know efficiency for Core i3 or Pentium G at 4GHz in Super Pi 32M. Because it's hard to find info about Core i3 or Pentium G at 4GHz 32m. It seems i need to work on my efficiency. Rule is simple, like other low clock challenge, core & cache speed limited to 4009 MHz, because i see core clock jumping between 4002.5-4007.5mhz on my system. As for now this is my best result : This is faster but fail : Thanks

  14. Hi, I was testing XTU with 39XX 12-12-12-28 2T mems and cant push BCLK over 102.5MHz for XTU. It makes 102.93 with lower mems but scores is lower than 102.5 3980 C12... Can anybody help me push that little MHz left when using tight mems? Thanks!

  15. Earlier this month I had the opportunity to get familiar with the ROG GX700 notebook. There are a couple of things that got me interested in this massive device. First of all, of course the water cooling. It's a huge device you can hook the notebook up to. Secondly, the hardware. It features not only the first mobile -K processor, the Core i7 6820HK, but also a desktop grade GeForce GTX 980 GPU and 64GB of DDR4 memory. A beast of a notebook, in other words. Soon we will have a SkatterBencher video up showing you how to overclock. In this thread I just want to share a couple of results and findings for those who are interested. OVERCLOCKING - CPU and GPU …

Hello guys, i have a 6600k with a cooler master hyper 212 evo. My question is the following, what is a safe voltage to set to let your cpu run on 24/7. I know it mostly deppends what temps you get, at 4.7ghz with a vcore set in bios at 1.330v and after running intel burn test at high setting i get a temp of the highest core of 75 degrees celsius, but the ambient temp is around 18 degrees, so i will expect that it goes i bit higher in the summer, but is the voltage safe to let it run on for 24/7 and are the temps oke

  18. Asus Maximus Extreme VIII is after several years next extreme versions of the series Maximus. The last one was Maximus VI Extreme in 2013 at chipset Intel Z87 (Maximus Extreme is primary for extreme OC and extreme clock and there was no reason for Z97 Extreme board. The sixth one got BIOS support for Haswell refresh). That's about 2 years since. VIII Maximus Extreme proved in the summer of 2015, but sales fell in the autumn of the same year. http://www.czc.cz/asus-maximus-viii-extreme-intel-z170/178524/produkt We will not linger here and go straight to the description of the boards on the theoretical side. 1.THeory The board is based on the new Intel Z170…

  19. Hey all, Anyone else having problems with their sleep functionality with their non-k bios? It seems to have junked the sleep functionality, where when trying to come out of sleep it just sits at a black screen with all the fans on full. Not that I'm complaining, as sleep is a small price to pay for 4.5mhz stable on my i5 6500, but if anyone has any ideas about how to fix it I'd be game. Thanks! (Using Asus z170-a non-k bios)

Hi, Does anyone know if there is some kind of limit at 170Mhz bclk setting? I have i5 6400 and Gigabyte z170-hd3p motherboard. I can't seem to get my computer to boot even one MHz over that. I'm sure my processor could do more as it will do 4590Mhz (at 170 bclk) at 1.25v.

  25. Hello, Does anyone know if the Xeon E3 v5's has the same potential of bclk overclocking like the non-K Skylake i3/i5/i7 has with new modified bios? I guess we could assume that the architecture of Xeon E3 v5 is similar to the Skylake i3/i5/i7 with a seperate bclk signal, which is what makes the bclk oc possible. I know Intel have made a change so Xeon E3 are no longer supported on consumer platforms like H110-Z170 chipsets and only C232/C236 chipset based motherboards, so they're strictly intended for workstation/server use. However Asus and MSI are indicating to me, that they think otherwise. It could be attractive since Xeon E3 v5 CPU's are i7's at a cheape…
