Massman Posted August 16, 2011 Author Posted August 16, 2011 Gelid GC-Extreme, I think. Tested it with the 990X and it was 10x better than the OCZ Freeze I used to use. Soon re-test with this VGA using Gelid instead of the Freeze/ Quote
Christian Ney Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 On my side I use Arctic Silver Ceramique 10€ for 22 grams Quote
splmann Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 Thank's Massman for the coldslow bios !!! I still have problems with my Matrix . I can bench now with -130 degree but still some time i get some artefacts. Then i have to warm up the pot to -40 and reboot the system . After this i can go to -130 again . Quote

That stuff is good for poisoning plants, but never use it with latest VGA's + Ln2 Gelid Extreme is the stuff you need and all the rest is crap. Freeze / frostbyte is last year stuff now, when we have something better. Thank's Massman for the coldslow bios !!! I still have problems with my Matrix . Is this card retail or press sample? If press sample, get retail. Some old cards was not completely final and there might be some issues. Retails have all done 1500+ and I have tested 5 of them. Do you have the firmware updated? If you have constant memory voltage around 2.0V you can go a lot lower in temperature. Use high memory clocks too (1300MHz+) Constant core voltage is mandatory for lazy benching. If you have those but still get artifacts, your thermal paste cracks and you loose good contact. Then you will not be able to do high clocks and will have artifacts with "low" clocks. My guess is the memory cold issues. Quote

But still i have this issue . So its important to go up with the memory 1300+ ? Yes its a Sample not a Retail ! Quote
Hondacity Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 Is Arctic Silver Ceramique so bad for LN2 ? simply yes Quote
Christian Ney Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 simply yes any test or arguments, want to understand why it's so wrong, I made some really good run with. Haven't tested without paste or other paste though Quote
Mean Machine Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 any test or arguments, want to understand why it's so wrong, I made some really good run with. Haven't tested without paste or other paste though It freezes way earlier than the good stuff. Quote
Christian Ney Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 (edited) It freezes way earlier than the good stuff. Arctic Silver Ceramique is the right stuff I trusted dino I too use Arctic Silver Ceramique for the majority of my subzero runs And Deux too +1 vote for ceramique And sam as well Edited August 16, 2011 by Christian Ney Quote
BenchZowner Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 [off-topic] The thermal paste argument... well, don't know what to say. I'd like to do some proper tests ( milled CPU IHS, but that would require the help of Intel for example, I don't want to mill the surface of the IHS ) with monitoring of 3 spots ( pot base, CPU in IHS temp, and paste temp ( some excess on the side of the cpu )), but I don't think I can get to that anytime soon. However, I used to use Ceramique always, and had some nice clocks, like 6.5GHz AQ3 with my 3005F 980X, 1400MHz @ GTX 480, 950 @ 5.6GHz+, 5870 @ 1450MHz ). Now, I can't tell if any of those chips can do better with another thermal paste, they're all dead or sold Quote
knopflerbruce Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 I never had any REAL issues with Ceramique, hell I even used that on my Q6600, and got a gold cup in pifast. Didn't run colder than about -150 though... hehe. Maybe it goes to h*ll at lower temps than I ran it at. If Ceramique was utter trash at those temps I should've noticed... Quote
Mean Machine Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 CPU's seems to be a slightly different matter. Compare Ceramique to Freeze or Gelid GC-Extreme on a GTX 580 and you'll see what I'm on about. Quote

Crew Leeghoofd Posted August 16, 2011 Crew Posted August 16, 2011 I trusted dino And Deux too And sam as well EPIC FAIL X3 and I thought you were smart Ceramique isn't bad if applied properly, the other ones listed are just better on GPUs... Quote

TaPaKaH Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 that was an old post when I didn't know that other pastes exist now I'm on Gelid Quote
Massman Posted August 16, 2011 Author Posted August 16, 2011 I trust SF3D over Christian_nay HOLY SHIIIIIIITTT !! US resident trusts SF3D??!! First credit crunch, Japan disaster, UK riots and now this. Wtf is going on with this world ... Quote
Hondacity Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 lol i never heard of issues with US and SF3D i don't really care bout issues. you guys can have all the issues in the world im all in for overclocking Quote
Deux Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 Yeah... that's an old post, I haven't used ceramique for anything colder than single stage runs in months Also, tried one retail matrix, 1565/1300 through 11 @1.56v, card was definitely tougher to bench than my CU though. Quote
dumo Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 You can request a sample here...http://www.chomerics.com/products/Thermal_Grease_650_660.htm Quote
SF3D Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 I tested some new CPU for 3Dmark11. It is ok. http://hwbot.org/submission/2200130_sf3d_3dmark11___performance_4x_geforce_gtx_580_23316_marks?recalculate=true This was quick full run, but the cpu can do 6300 on this test. Now I need to add some VGA clocks. I would be happy If I could hit more than 1200MHz Quote
Massman Posted August 19, 2011 Author Posted August 19, 2011 Still need to upload the "haters gonna hate" video that fits with that score . Nice start! Quote
