TaPaKaH Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 current samples actually do have same clock walls, only more cores and improved by ~15% single-threaded performance. Quote
Gamer Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 Question is, will it be as good for 3D01 as Sandy Bridge ? Quote
K404 Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 Weird to think BCLK overclocking will be back and yet still things don't change in terms of scaling..... weird architecture. Quote
Massman Posted August 24, 2011 Author Posted August 24, 2011 Weird to think BCLK overclocking will be back and yet still things don't change in terms of scaling..... weird architecture.  BCLK overclocking is not back, they just added more straps to play with. Instead of the single 100MHz ref clock, you'll now have 100, 133/150(?), 166, 200 and 250MHz.  I kind of expect there to be not much added wiggle-room, though. These settings are basically clockgen registry settings. I expect them to be linked to the PCI/USB still. So, probably it will be like:  100MHz strap => 100-110 MHz 133MHz strap => 133-144 MHz 166MHz strap => 166-182 MHz 200MHz strap => 200-220 MHz 250MHz strap => 250-275 MHz  So, re-introduction of "fsb hole"-type of problem.  (ofcourse, this is pure speculation, but it makes sense for me ) Quote
xxbassplayerxx Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 Protip: Â Go back to X58 style overclocking, Intel. Quote
Massman Posted August 24, 2011 Author Posted August 24, 2011 Anyone else rooting for Bulldozer to be competitive in absolute performance (after OC)? Quote
dumo Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 (edited) It seems like it...if SB-E stuck @ 53X average then BD that can scale with cold probly will be a short cut.... Â Time to dust off your venom pot and put the single stage back in the drawer...and hold on to your 58X/59X:) Edited August 24, 2011 by dumo Quote
xoqolatl Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 Anyone else rooting for Bulldozer to be competitive in absolute performance (after OC)? Â I hope it's fast at least in 3dm05 and 06 Or at least a decent platform for heavily GPU-limited benches... Quote
AndreYang Posted August 25, 2011 Posted August 25, 2011 Of course. It'll be 15% faster. Â Â prove it Quote
El Gappo Posted August 25, 2011 Posted August 25, 2011 Oh hell no  Anyone else rooting for Bulldozer to be competitive in absolute performance (after OC)?  Quote

Mean Machine Posted August 26, 2011 Posted August 26, 2011 as long as it beats current cheery picked ES 980x scores i'm fine with clock walls  Not sure how cheerful the average 980X is, but I for one ain't holding my breath for SB-E. Quote
