rtsurfer
Vietnam 4790Ks have been really good on Ambient & for sub zero there have been a few good chips. Â Not all of them suck.

I had an x439b766 which did 6300 hwprime at 1.625v but had some issues with the shitty thermal paste under the ihs.

Achill3uS
strong chip for sure, but i never seen so low temps at 1.35v, what kind of cooling are you using?
Guest TheMadDutchDude
Water and a direct die mounting, is my guess.
fat4l
strong chip for sure, but i never seen so low temps at 1.35v, what kind of cooling are you using?  water-cooled cpu ofc  EK Supremacy Evo full nickel (+other blocks) 2x 240mm EK Coolstream PE + Corsair sp120 push/pull Mora 3 420 + Bitfenix Spectre Pro 230mm push/pull 2x EK DDC 3.2 + xtops in series + ek exp  Delidded chip, ihs not glued back, CL Pro everywhere.  Will be redoing the loop soon and replacing some of the tubes with angled fittings     + one extra img showing the cooling power of the system 30 mins of furmark 295X2 with Sapphire OC bios(1030/5200) Max temp on both cores under load = 40C  Edited May 29, 2015 by fat4l
donaldduck2004
Wellcome to Frito Lay's factory So far more testings:  4770K 3408B173 - epic potatoes  4770K L312B508 - epic turnip   4690K L331C514 - epic potatoes, no boot to OS 5 ghz  G3258 3418B977 - best is 1.55v @ 5 GHz boot to OS  4790K L419B722 - best can't boot 5 GHz air  4790K L420B765 - all cpus boot 5 GHz air 4/8 so are only lemons, not tragic on air (best is 1.23v @ 4.7 GHz OCCT), but not scaling on cold, best can do 5.8 GHz Physx 3d11 but 6.1 GHz CPU-Z is max with 2 cores...  I didn't catch the meaning about the L419B722  Please can you be clear about it's performances in overclock?  I'm going to buy from an forumer. So it's not new and I'd like to know if it would be a good choice...  Thanks Edited June 6, 2015 by donaldduck2004
Guest TheMadDutchDude
I think he means that none of the ones tried can boot at 5 GHz, at all.
donaldduck2004
I think he means that none of the ones tried can boot at 5 GHz, at all. So it would not be the best batch... Â Ooooook...
filmbot
Just picked up a 4790K that came delidded with IHS lapped and no box. Any other markings or software that can potentially determine batch information?

filmbot
Not that I know of  Figured not but just wondering.  Seems mine is fine passing 32M 4c/8t 4.9ghz core/4.5ghz NB 1.35v vCore 1.25v vCPU/NB but hits hard wall at 5ghz even with 2cores and up to1.4v vCore. Little disappointing from a delidded chip that can do 4.8ghz OCCT for 30mins.
Guest TheMadDutchDude
Have you tweaked the VCCIN to see if it helps?
Digg
4790K - X441A903    4c/4t, 5000/4700/2666 9-12-12 lowest Vcore Pi32m with AiO Watercooling = 1.258v   5200/4700/2666 runs, too.
filmbot
Have you tweaked the VCCIN to see if it helps?  Somehow just noticed this post.  Only "tweaking" I did to VCCIN was set it to 1.8v but after the last couple days poking around, see that I should set it around 2.4v(?) according to Sins Gigabyte Z97 tweaking guide.  Or am I confusing VRIN with VCCIN?  4790K - X441A9034c/4t, 5000/4700/2666 9-12-12 lowest Vcore Pi32m with AiO Watercooling = 1.258v   5200/4700/2666 runs, too.  Decent looking chip with that NB frequency and voltage
Guest TheMadDutchDude
That's for Haswell. DC doesn't do so well with high VCCIN. It actually works better with less for the most part. Try tweaking it and you'll find your spot. Start at 1.6 volts and go up. See what happens.
Alex@ro
I would not recommed 2.4V on air or 3.0V on ln2 for haswell or DC unless you want to quickly burn your cpu, surely those recommandations were made in times of high alcohol abuse...

zeropluszero
Anyone have any tips for Pentium on cold that has random restarts? I've benched mine at 5.9-6.0 on ln2, and often I complete something like HWBot Prime, gives a score, and immediate shutdown just like cold bug, but the temperature might be 10 degrees off measured CB. Off the top of my head, I was using like 2.7vccin and 1.85vcore. I've found a bit more stability using slow mode switch straight after hwbot prime, but still get reboots when I'm trying to save screenshot. steponz
It's been a long while. But vcinn is what did it for me.. don't remember if it was lowering or increasing it. Â I think I might have been 2.755.. been almost a year since I benched it .
