General hardware discussion

  1. Started by trodas,

For the first time, when I run Everest Ultimate v4.20.1170 I get message that request to send the mainboard info to Lavalys So I did, of course, only to get this email: But the question remain - how to get identification of mainboard, on witch there is no type/marker printed? It is a Socket 478 mainboard, featuring VIA P4X400 chipset, AGP and surprisingly still in working condition Featuring only lame Celeron 2.6GHz (100x26), tough: http://valid.x86.fr/dalq8i ...but a nice GeForce 6600 from Asus Anyone have clue, what to do? Upgrade to Aida64? What if Aida did not know it either...?

  2. Started by K404,

I have a random XFX 3rd party PCB and BIOS here... scores are terrible and GPU-Z tells me that the GPU core and memory controller are both loading at 50%, which kinda makes sense, given the scores i'm getting. It's just this card, so I think BIOS. Platform, OS and drivers make no difference. Has anyone got experience of this and/or ideas on how to solve it? Nibitor doesn't have a "disable bollocks" option Oh... card also has "Turbocache", which i'm not used to and I can't see any obvious options for messing with that.

  3. I would like to know, if I'm not mistaken and AGP card with two notches in the connector is universal AGP 3.3/1.5V card and therefore CAN be used on boards with WARNING about not using AGP 3.3V cards. So is this card: ...universal card, as from this source: http://www.playtool.com/pages/agpcompat/agp.html ...it looks like? ... Bottom line - Ati Rage Pro (AGP v2, 4x speed, universal card?) is usable in ASRock 775i65G mainboard (AGP v3, 8x speed) witch does not support AGP 3.3V cards, when the card have two notches, right or wrong?

  4. Guys, I wonder, if anyone can suggest me a good (at best RPC-1 patchable) DVD-RW drive. I like my old NEC drives (DV-4551A, DV-2510A) and I'm even satisfacted with the Sony Optiarc AD-7621S, but all these are baige/black. Now what good drive (SATA these says, of course) is produced in white color? Could anyone help me out? For THIS case it could be a reall beauty: ...and basically it is a question of design. I seen plenty of extrernal (slim, sadly, not re-usable as internal drive) white DVD-RW combodrives, but none internal. Anyone can suggest white one...?

I would like to share first impressions of using old Intel Xeon X5650 CPU in MSI X58 Pro-E mobo. First at all, the mobo and Xeon is really fool-proof. I was not sure, what base FSB set to boot, so from the 133 - 166 and 200MHz settings I picked the middle. But that X5650 should be run at 133x200 = 2660, not 166x20 But it works just like that... My first Memtest run on MSI X58 Pro-E: Hopefully you guys at least having at least good laugh. When I fixed the settings, I get 10 800MB/sec speeds w/o any tweaking or overclocking, but this first run was kind of fun I had to borrow ram from gaming computer for the testing, the triple channel kit is en route... Al…

I wanted board that support AGP and the Core 2 Duo CPU's, especially the Core 2 Extreme X6800 for AGP benching. Dunno if that was a good choice, but the first board I get for this purpose is ASRock 775i65G R3.0. It does not look like much: http://postimg.org/image/i2e14qssf/ http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/775i65G%20R3.0/ ...but it promise support for the FSB 1066 on the fast CPUs. I ordered a Core 2 Extreme X6800 ( http://www.ebay.com/itm/Intel-Core-2-Extreme-Processor-X6800-SL9S5-2-93-GHz-4M-1066-MHz-FSB-/191455804119?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2c93a7bad7 ), some fast rams should be moving towards me too ( http://forum.hwbot.org/showthread.php?t=95400&…

  7. Hello friends anyone knows exactly what the difference between these two motherboards apart from the network card as the official site that is the only difference.

  8. Started by trodas,

Usually, when I overclocking, I find that there is the maximum overclock (FSB/CPU) that let me boot into Windows. Then, about 5 to 10MHz lower on the FSB (usually over 200MHz for the CPU clock) is the machine semistable for benching. And real stability happens futher down the road, about 15 to 20MHz on the FSB and 300+MHz on the max. CPU clock. A good example is my recent experiments on stock (not ever recapped, sadly, yet) ASRock 775i65G R3.0 mobo: default X6800: http://valid.canardpc.com/d6wa6r - 2.93GHz (FSB 266) stable: http://valid.canardpc.com/rjg1fw - 3.14GHz (FSB 286) benchable: http://valid.canardpc.com/i68sc4 - 3.25GHz (FSB 296) max OC: http://valid.c…

I finally am single so I can afford an I7 now. This is my first Intel CPU and it seems to run kind of hot to me. According to XTU it idles around 45C. I've seen it get up to 94C during a benchmark. I have a corsair h60 cooler. Any thoughts?

Hi, I have 1x 29" (2560x1080) and two 22" (1920x1080) monitors. But I have nVidia graphics cards... So 6400x1080 not working. Exist any unofficial way to commissioning this resolution? I can use 5760x1080, but graphics on center monitor is very bad... Thanks.

Good people. I come to you with a great concern. One that speaks directly to what I believe and will show below to have been plaguing the tech review industry for years. Like all ills, this speaks to a minority of websites, as the vast majority at least in the capacity of content creators, are upright, transparent and reliable. However, something has caught my attention and I would appreciate your sober and objective opinion on it. I must say first, that I come to you because; believe it or not - you are the keepers, watchers of the entire industry. Your consistent effort, drive and intense competitive spirit is what keeps you at the bleeding edge of desktop computi…

Somewhat new here, hi everyone. Had a question, how do I go about binning? I live near a Fry's electronics, do I just continuously buy, test, return until I get a good chip? Are there better ways of doing this? CPU in question will be a 5820k. (I know I can buy from silicon lottery, but I have limited funds, and the CPU I'd like from him costs to much for it to make sense for me when I could in theory do it at Fry's)

I could really use a hand of help here folks. Asus RVE, bios 1401, 5960X, G.Skill - 3200. After a 3D benchmark and a reboot, I got code 79 - CSM Initialization error - on the board. Usual reaction, reset, hard reset, battery cmos clear, different ram modules, bios flash back to 1302, remove and reseat cpu, you name it. Nope, boot process stuck at error 79. Any ideas ? Any help will be greatly appreciated. George

Since I did not managed to find any bios explaining guide, that focus purely on speed, I hope to build it there, with the help of others There are some good guides, tough, such as: Asus BIOS overclocking guide: http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?2585-ASUS-Crosshair-V-Formula-BIOS-Guide-Overclocking Now what settings I get confirmed from experienced other user, that I edit back as confirmed recommended setting: Enhanced Halt State - allow better power saving - for speed IMHO disable? Intel Virtualization Technology - allow HW assisted virtualization, dunno for what Win this is necessary and ho idea about speed? CPU Thermal Throttling - "cool…

My sis got this board, as attempt to make the Sims2 on her machine run a bit faster over Radeon 9000. The card history is long, but to make long story short, it served me as backup card well, when I killed my FX5700Ultra, and it even show great O/C potencial (under watercooling), but novadays I did not have any use for it, and sis like it. However I noticed that in extra stresfull situations (like in 64k intros fr-019: poem to a horse there http://farb-rausch.de/ or Life Index (curiously not present in download section, but you can grab it there: http://ax2.old-cans.com/life_index.zip ) that the image like to freeze and then re-appear (no change to music or intro…

http://www.reddit.com/r/AMD/wiki/sabotage Listed within the Wiki is a tool to repair files with the Intel's cripple. I've yet to test it, but you're welcome to check out all the links for yourself. It will only fix 32 bit applications with Intel's cripple. Any newer cripple code won't be found or extracted. ... (no, AMD cpu's aren't going to beat Intel, but still they can run faster) ... My eye caught this: So this suxxka plays video and shows the audience that this is a Direct X 11 game? Driving my one hand and making fun of it? Come on. He have no shame?! What a bunch of crocks...

  21. Life is kicking my ass for a while (maybe till the end of July), so very little time to OCing etc lately. However, dear Movieman collected a few items for me, including an Areca 1882IX which goes into my daily driver. The tiny cooler is quite noisy and hot, so I had to upgrade... and my motto "never throw stuff away, you don't know what you might need later" was true - got a pair of VF700-Cu's to fit just perfect on it The only question is if I should add some sinks on the chips close to the memory stick, between the two heatsinks... they were passively cooled, but the TDP is 28W or something so they should survive with a little bit of airflow I guess.......? The Gen…

  22. Hi, I am participating in the contest "Challenger 2015 DIV VI Round 1" When I go to load the result (pcmark benchmark) gives me error because there is no file validation . The error is: Validation error: A valid futuremark compare url is required if want to reach the PCMark for Android Hall Of fame. As only 11 benchmark scores are better than you, you need to provide additional verification. The problem is that the benchmark , PCMark for Android does not release the validated . How do I ? Sorry for my english

It appears that my MSI X99S Gaming 7 motherboard has developed pin rot after a benching session with Obscureparadox on Saturday. Is there a fix for pin rot? Can it be repaired or is the board pretty much brown bread and unusable now? http://i.imgur.com/lv1s6Pd.jpg http://i.imgur.com/bySLAUB.jpg http://i.imgur.com/3TSBhUk.jpg
