As you could see already  coffe lake cpu 's can run on the Asus Maximus IX Apex motherboard. 

 

Full steps required for making this happen : 

 

#1 Hardware mod

 

 

Do the following modifications :

Short the following pads in order to flash the bios file : 

 

Solder the following points:

 

 

#2 Bios flash

Rename it as creative.rom , copy it on a fat32 formatted drive  and flash it using USB Flashback method.

 

NOTE!

 

Do the bios flash after hardware mods are done  !!! Soldering cpu pads is not needed  . 

 

Known issue is that HT does not work currently on 6c cpu's hence it is disabled by default. After everything is set-up board will work with cofee lake based cpu's as well as with older cpu's without issue.

with the dual bios switch, can we still use the regular bios with this mod (to use i7 7700K Hyperthreading for instance), and switch to the modded bios for 8000 series?

Only 6 core cpu has no HT eg. 8700k

exactly 8700 8700k...., ht on 7700k works fine

Everything should work as expected except HT on 6C cpu's 

Thnaks for share it. Thants mean for multtihread benchamrks  we must still to use Z370. But for light one core benchmarks will be M9A fine (including thats work still with Kabyl also)

This means that HT is not working for now, but i'm sure it will work soon.

I've removed and did again the mod but same problem.. with 7700k it's working perfectly. I'll try bios reflash and another 8700k then I'm out of idea.

Just got it going myself, did mod day it was posted but board decided to do that stupid AC,CC,B1,53 mem problem. OS is XP64
