HWBOT 2021 Edition

Subforum to gather/spread information about the way ahead with HWBot in 2021

  1. So for those that slept the last months under a rock, it is sort off official that HWBOT ownership has passed on from the original developper Frederik to the Thermal Grizzly company. Before continuing I would like to thank Frederik and the staff ( or whats left of it ) to have kept the Bot up and running, especially for the last year. I've had several phonecalls with the new owners and they stressed the Bot will remain a free service to the OC community. The main goal is to preserve the database, fix initially some major bugs and revise the current point calculation. Now everything will take time and there will prolly not be a huge overhaul but we would l…

K here they finally are, before we start to explain what and why we did it, take note that there will never be a point system that will suit everybody! Some will love it, others will loath it. Nevertheless this new point system will be one of the last things we wanted to implement before the programmer can focus in full on a new HWBOT, completely build from scratch. Last thing on our agenda is the merging of the "With BenchMate" benchmarks with the standard ones. But we require Mat's cooperation to make the latter happen. K now back to the point system... The Old Boints: I completely lost track of how many different versions of HWBot have p…

As some of you noticed a lot of drama has been ongoing about certain team loosing a lot of points and some even dropping a few spots in the ranking. It seems some think this was a premeditated act to achieve the above and to mess around. I think we all have better things to do as a there is still a lot of work to do. Biggest issue was this was implemented without any checks of the moderation Team. The point/competition algorithms are for 90% based on a totally new code and this means a lot of old bugs of the original point system have been finally adressed. Sadly as with everything in the semi conductor world new code usually means a few new bugs will pop …

  5. Hello, Yesterday on discord there was once again a discussion about there being no point in pushing older platforms to their limit in memory benches, though the focus was on memory frequency. Memory benches can output wildly different results on different platforms despite being ran at similar memory settings (pyprime AM4 vs LGA 1200 for example), making it not even worth it to run them on many platforms. Thus we arrived at the following suggestion: Change memory benchmarks from hwpoints per DDR generation + globals overall to hwpoints per CPU Socket and memory globals from overall to per DDR generation. An alternative suggestion of per CPU genera…

We got many inputs that some new achievements need to be added to keep the interest of the community. So the floor is yours... We are aware that the automatic updating of these is still hit and miss, but it's on the to do list of the programmer(s)

  7. Hey there! Q3/Q4 we will see new Intel CPUs and these Intel CPUs are also going to open up a new era. From the information that is publicly available Alder Lake (i9 12900K), will be made of 2 different types of cores: up to 8 Golden Cove and up to 8 Gracemont cores. Previous leaks described this as P-Cores and E-Cores. (8P + 8E) The Golden Cove cores will be the "fast" cores and Gracemont cores will be "slow". Now we're thinking about how to list these CPUs at HWBot. The first thought might be obvious to list the CPU as 16C CPU, as we have 16C in total. However from what we know about future AMD CPUs, we also know that AMD will eventually move the the big/l…

Since the implementation of the new points calculation system I have a bug on my profile page. Unable to access my points via my profile, it's a bit annoying. On UAT it still works though. Am I the only one affected? Here are two screenshots to show the problem more exactly. Thank you in advance for all the work of the team at the start of the year!

  9. Hi folks, Since alder lake P-core categories have been added, and FX 1 core per CU categories have begun to be rolled out, I think clear guidance is needed on how to treat single-threaded CPU benchmarks (and validations, for that matter). Conventionally it's very common to disable cores for lightly threaded and singlethreaded work, but we're now in a situation where disabling idle cores can change the hardware category even though the work is being done by the same cores. Currently there seems to There are two approaches I can think of that make sense; Mandate that fully enabled scores go in the base hardware category, and scores with only P-cores enab…

Hi team, we have this incredible platform with hwbot that we mostly love and sometimes hate. Train of thought: Recently I uploaded a result with Benchmate commented by buildzoid who pointed out (and rightfully so as it is compliant with the rules) that one of my three cpu-z windows didn’t show the memory tab as I made this annoying mistake and opened up the same cpu-z tab twice. That I‘m sure happened to all of us once in the heat of the moment trying to conserve that precious score in a screenshot. https://hwbot.org/submission/4810041_ w Ah annoying! Well I re-ran it before it even got picked up by an admin the next day and put up th…

I had a long zoom meeting with the programmer today. One of the key factors why HWBOT is slow at times is mainly due to the fact that one server handles it all. The Database is responsible for keeping track of everything: all (new) submissions, competitions and therefore also the recalculation of all rankings and scores. Also on each page there is so much data available in different tables , thus they require too many queries to fetch all the data. Data which is sometimes abundant and even irrelevant. Therefore we have some proposals to do some minor changes to several pages to get things soaring... at all times... Benchmark list: Current format …

Currently our programmer Tim is looking at the Reported page bug. Which looks for many like this: While it should look like this: Don't worry if you get emails from a user called Tim or TimTG that reported your score, we are still conducting tests (usually from UAT server, which is the testing environment) What we do want to know is who is affected by this bug? As I checked plenty and only a few have the top screen. Now Tim figured out it is a bad link with the database, but he needs to get some more data to work with. So if you are affected, plz let us know in this thread.

Hello my friends from Hwbot! First all, sorry my broken english, but since it’s not my mother language, I will do my best to be clear. Some people already know me, I have a lot of time on Hwbot and I have been very active in the rankings in the past. However, I am sad to noticed that an activity that we are passionate about seems to be being abandoned. Really for me, it is not very important the ranking, but for many people, especially for newcomers, Hwbot, the Worldwide League is the place for reference. I don’t like to see Hwbot only as a “overclocking database”, as Ripping Org in the past, but a place where overclockers change experiences, frie…
